JANUARY
Wayne E. Willis, 77, of Columbia, formerly of Valmeyer, died Jan. 29 at St. Anthony's Medical Center. He was the husband of Mary Ann Willis nee Pape. He was born June 6, 1926 at Alliance, OH the son of the late James and Elizabeth Willis nee Garman. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Scott (Mary Ann) Willis, Robin Willis and Mark (Mary) Willis; one daughter Lauren (David) Hesterberg; six grandchildren; one step granddaughter; two step great grandchildren; a sister Donna (Larry) Scott and a brother Donn (Linda) Willis. Mr. Willis was retired from Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He was an army veteran of WWII. He served 12 years as a village trustee for Valmeyer. He served as choir director for 12 years at his church. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, piano player and showed his artistic talents with snow sculptures created at his home in Valmeyer. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a memorial service was conducted Feb. 14.

DECEMBER
Troy T. Dickerson of St. Charles, MO died at his home Dec. 21, 2003 following a short illness with cancer. His wife Joan Dickerson nee Meister formerly of Fults; two children, three grandchildren; two brothers, a sister; nieces and nephews survive him.

Clarence Rabbermann, 84, of Waterloo died Dec. 3. He was the husband of the late Florence Rabbermann nee Sander. He was born Dec. 22, 1918 at Waterloo. the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Bicklein) Rabbermann. Survivors include two sons, Norman (Lois) Rabbermann and Glenn A. (Kathy) Rabbermann; two sisters, Adele Vogt and Alice (Roy) Nobbe; a brother Ervin (Edna) Rabbermann; sister-in-law Ann (Harold) Klotz; five grandchildren, Lori Rabbermann, Douglas (Julie) Rabbermann, Holly (Brett) Garrett, Glenn J. Rabbermann and Derrick Rabbermann; and four great grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was conducted Dec. 5 the Rev. Don Harmon officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Mary Veronica (Bonnie) Riebeling, 83, of Columbia died Dec. 3 at Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center, Edwardsville. She was the wife of the late Aloys G. Riebeling, Sr. Mrs. Riebeling was born April 5, 1920 the daughter of the late Walter and Susan (Borders) Hetzel. Survivors include a son Butch (Cheri) Riebeling; a daughter Mary Broome; a sister Helen Toenjes; grandchildren Michelle Menner, Jennifer Riebeling and Bryan Riebeling; and two great grandchildren. She was the retired owner of Weinel Hardware in Columbia, a member of Immaculate Conception Church, a former Boy Scout leader and an avid fisherman and kloepper player. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m., Father Carl Scherrer officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Ann B. Vendl, 92, of Waterloo died Dec. 3. She was the wife of the late Frank Vendl. She was born Feb. 25, 1911 in Croatia the daughter of the late John and Katherine Rade. Survivors include a son Robert Vendl; two daughters, Charlene Horn and Arlova Allen; a brother, Joseph (Florence)Tumback; seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Lawlor Funeral Home handled arrangements. There were no services.

Myrtle I. Wolff nee Hughes, 93, of Waterloo died Dec. 1. She was the wife of the late Bernard L. Wolff. Mrs. Wolff was born July 3, 1910 at Nebraska the daughter of the late William and Edith (Farnsworth) Hughes. Survivors include a daughter Marilynn (Harvey) Schaefer and a son Gene (Linda) Wolff; nine grandchildren and other relatives. She was a member of St. Paul UCC, Iris Society, the Women's Guild and the Waterloo Home Extension. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo Dec. 5 the Rev. Kevin Brown officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

NOVEMBER
Marcella M. Heusohn nee Pieper, 87, of Waterloo died Nov. 30. She was the wife of the late Fred Heusohn. Mrs. Heusohn was born March 21, 1916 at Harrisonville the daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Rippelmeyer) Pieper. Survivors include two children, Gene (Linda) Heusohn and Carol Wold; two sisters, Olinda Matzenbacher and Leona Ziegler; three grandchildren, Gina (Keith) Embrich, Geoffrey (Kathy) Heusohn and Sharon Wilson; six great grandchildren and other relatives. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Dec. 4 at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo the Rev. Michael Dixon officiating. Burial was at St. John Cemetery, Valmeyer. She was a member of St. John UCC at Mascoutah.

Harold (Red) Kohlmeier, 66, of Waterloo died Nov. 26. He was the son of the late William F. Jr. and Ella (Junge) Kohlmeier and was born Aug. 20, 1937 in Waterloo. Survivors include a daughter, Tanya Hildalgo and a son Tyler Kohlmeier; four sisters, Mildred Reith, Vera Clements, Leona Klein and Florence (Roger) Lenhardt; a brother Melvin Kohlmeier; and two grandchildren, Kyle Harold James Hildalgo and Ryan William Hidalgo. He was a retired teamster for Baxmeyer Excavating and a member of Local 50, Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Waterloo Sportsman's Club. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at Immanuel Lutheran Church Nov. 29 with the Rev. Tony Troup officiating. Burial was at Waterloo City Cemetery.

Erwin Hoock, 85, of Columbia died Nov. 25 at Four Fountains Nursing Center in Belleville. He was the husband of the late Oleda G. (Grasshaw) Hoock. They were married Nov. 29, l976. Mr. Hoock was born Feb. 6, 1918 at East Carondelet the son of the late Bernard and Louisa C. (Metzger) Hoock. A brother Oliver Hoock and two sisters, Lucille Sager and Viola Baltz, survive Mr. Hoock. He was retired from Midwest Rubber as an operator. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher and was a member of the Millstadt Horseshoe Club, the Columbia Sportsman's Club and Immaculate Conception Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Alvira Hilderbrand and four brothers, Leonard, Clem, Herbert and James Hoock. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral service was Dec. 1 Father Steve Gira officiating. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.

Michelle (Shelly) Fassel nee Caesar, 49, of Columbia died Nov. 23 at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Charles and June (Feldmeier) Caesar. Besides her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Cara (Wayne) Pulcher and a son Chris (Melinda) Fassel; two sisters, Karen (Norman) Waterman and Nancy (Keith) Connelly; and three grandchildren, Garret, Coby and Lindsi. Her brother, Scott Caesar preceded her in death. She was a nurse's assistant at St. Anthony's Medical Center and a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Mrs. Fassel was born Dec. 30, 1953 in Belleville. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home with a funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Church Nov. 25 the Msgr. Carl Scherer officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Robert G. Habermehl, 83, of Columbia died Nov. 23 at Columbia Convalescent Center. He was the husband of Margaret K. (Francis) Habermehl. They were married Feb. 23, 1941. He was the son of the late Jacob and Lizetta (Ritter) Habermehl. He was a retired real estate agent for Schueler Realty, Inc. and an army veteran of WW II earning the Silver Star. In addition to his wife, Mr. Habermehl is survived by a daughter Saundra K. Schmid; two sons, Robert G. Habermehl, Jr. and Ronald F. Habermehl; grandchildren, Jennifer Stilwell and Joseph R. Schmidt, Danielle Carroll, Christine Matrisotto, Kelly Tudtud, Jaime and Matthew Habermehl and seven great grandchildren. Four brothers, Russell, Lester, Walter and Norman Habermehl, preceded him in death. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was at 8 p.m. Nov. 26, Chaplain Wayne officiating. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.

Robert W. Ludwig, 73, of Green Valley, AZ, formerly of Waterloo, died Nov. 22 in Arizona. He was the husband of Carmen R. Ludwig nee Riquarts. He was born July 10, 1930, the son of the late Fred A. and Pauline Ludwig nee Hern. Besides his wife Mr. Ludwig is survived by a daughter Cynthia (Larry) Philpot; two sons, Robert W. Ludwig, Jr. and Stephen Paul Ludwig; two sisters, Lavern (Gene) Hoff and Vivian Gray; a sister-in-law Virginia Ludwig and two grandchildren Brea and Danny Philpot. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was Nov. 16 the Rev. Kyle Sandersfeld officiating. Burial was at Waterloo City Cemetery. Besides his parents, a brother, Dr. Fred A. Ludwig preceded him in death.

Edward L. Starr, 47, of Columbia died Nov. 21 at Gateway Medical Center in Granite City. He was the husband of Nancy (Lee) Starr. They were married Dec. 8, 1973. He was born May 9,1956 in East St. Louis the son of Edward Starr and Ruby (Dowell) Starr. Survivors include two sons, Edward (Jennifer) Starr and Steve (Rachel Frierdich) Starr; three brothers, Steve (April) Starr, Ricky (Sonda) Starr and Mark Starr; two sisters, Diana Starr and Brenda (Aaron Dee) Duckworth; grandchildren, Edward Starr, Lindsay Starr and Isaiah Starr and other relatives. He was an operator at Granite City Steel and a member of the United Steelworkers. He also had worked at Cerro Copper. He was an avid musician, songwriter, and lyricist and represented his union members with his music at many public functions. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a memorial service was Nov. 25. His remains were cremated.

Mary Catherine Maurer, 97, of Waterloo died Nov. 19 at Monroe County Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Brodneski) Kwiatkowski and was born Nov. 21, l905 in St. Louis. She was the wife of the late Michael Maurer. She was a retired beauty operator at 39th Street Beauty Shop in St. Louis. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Paul UCC in Columbia. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Nov. 21 the Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.

Edlin C. Gerber nee Bange, 87, of Waterloo died Nov. 17. She was the wife of the late Earl F. Gerber. She was born April 9, 1916 at Waterloo the daughter of the late Edmund P. and Louisa W. Bange nee Dillenberger. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sisters Wilda Siders and Wilma (Harold) Knowles; four grandchildren, Holly (Gene) Voelker, Julie (Doug) Rabbermann, Connie (Jim) Seboldt and Ray (Julie) Garleb; seven, great grandchildren and other relatives. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Nov. 21 at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo the Rev. Michael Dixon officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Harvey H. Schneider, 96, of Columbia died Nov. 16. His wife Hazel Schneider nee Flynn survives him. He was the son of the late Fred W. and Mary J. Schneider nee Jaenke and was born March 26, 1907 at Burksville the son of the late Fred W. and Mary Schneider nee Jaenke. Besides his wife a niece Janet Flynn; seven great nieces, one great nephew and 14 great great nieces and nephews and other relatives survive him. He was retired and a member of the Waterloo VFW and Legion and the Monroe County Historical Society. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was Nov. 19 the Rev. Ivan Horn officiating. Burial was at Burksville Cemetery.

Robert D. Keller, 74, of Waterloo died Nov. 10. He was the husband of Hattie Keller nee Frank. Mr. Keller was born Dec. 20, 1928 at Madison County the son of the late Wilbert and Lucille Keller nee Widman. Survivors include a daughter, Karla (Terry) Pflueger; three sons, Gayle (Terri) Keller, Barry (Chris) Keller and Larry Keller (fiancé Denise Solomon); a brother Roland Keller; 15 grandchildren and other relatives. He was the retired manager of Monroe Service Co. and a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Waterloo American Legion Post 747, Waterloo Optimist Club, Highland VFW, Kaskaskia Port District Board of Directors, the Monroe County Farm Bureau and the Waterloo Country Club. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was Nov. 13 Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Ernest J. (Nick) Nicoletti, 88, of Columbia died Nov. 9 at Columbia Convalescent Center. He was the husband of Verta Schneider whom he married May 13, 1968. He was born Aug. 8, 1915 at St. Louis the son of the late Nick and Mary Nicoletti. Besides his wife he is survived by two stepdaughters, Shirley (Willie) Eckert and Jane (Rich) Sommer; six grandchildren and 121 great grandchildren. His parents and two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. He retired from Bi-State Transit after 35 years of service as a driver. He was included into the St. Louis Baseball Amateur Hall of Fame as an umpire and was a member of the Columbia Senior Citizens and the Columbia Gymnastic Association. He attended Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral was at the funeral home Nov. 12 with Fr. Steve Gira officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Katie J. Watters nee Boyles, 80 of Waterloo died Nov. 9. She was the wife of Claud L. Watters, Sr. She was born Dec. 13, 1922 the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Boyles nee Middleton. Besides her husband Mrs. Watters is survived by two sons, Claud J. (Ann) Watters, Ronald (Sue) Watters and Albert (Theresa) Watters; a daughter, Mary Hudson; a stepson Allen (Bonnie) Watters; 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was Nov. 12 Ronald Watters officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Esther L. Tolin Wagge nee Rahn, 88, of Waterloo died Nov. 7. She was the daughter of the late Louis Rahn and Delia Huber and was born May 4, 1915 at Evansville. Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Roger) Schewe and Betty Soto; a brother, George (Viola) Rahn; two grandchildren, Dawn (John) Wahlig and Angie Schewe; great grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Krystin, Kacey and Tre`; and a sister-in-law Lavern Rahn. Husbands Roy Tolin and Wilbert Waage and brothers Carl, Elmer, and Walter Rahn and a sister Hilda Dohrmann preceded her in death. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was Nov. 11 the Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.

Sharon Kay Kemp, nee Melton, 53, of Columbia died Nov. 4. She was the daughter of the late Warren and Meda Melton nee Gibson. Survivors include two daughters, Tonya (Jack Klohr) Brogan and Cheryl (Bryan) Duffy; two sons, Jeffrey (Cyrstal) Kemp and Dennis (Jamie Palmer) Kemp; three sisters, Shirley Schuchert, Judy (Dave Richards) Stogsdill and Brenda Nichols; Mike Wagner, special friend; seven grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was a cook with Columbia Unit 4 Schools, a member of the Dupo VFW Auxiliary and the Sugarloaf Sportsmen. Visitation was at the Dashner Funeral Home in Dupo where the Rev. William Groennert officiated at a funeral Thursday, Nov. 6. Burial was at Valhalla Gardens of Memory.

Alberta (Bertie) Heidger, nee Pour, 74, of Freeburg died Nov. 4. She was the wife of the late Clyde Heidger. Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Denise) Heidger and John (Rebecca) Heidger; two daughters, Nancy (Pat) Dougherty and Mary Kay (Steve) Lauck; two sisters, Adele (Eugene) Maurer and Ethel (Owen) Masterson; four brothers, Paul (Audrey), Robert (Gloria), Lee (Darlene) and Joe (Maecella) Pour; eight grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was Nov. 6 at St. John Church at Smithton, Father Ken York officiating. Burial was at St. Augustine Cemetery, Hecker.

Evelyn M. Haugent, nee Porzel, 84, of Waterloo died Nov. 3. She was the wife of the late Melvin Thompson, Charles Walker and Raymond Haugen. She was born July 25, 1919 the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Grote) Porzel. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Dr. Charles) Rayot and a stepdaughter Phyllis Baller; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Nov. 7 with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial was Calvary Cemetery, St.Louis.

Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Van de Riet, nee Meyer, 62, died Nov. 3. She was the wife of Joe Van de Riet and was born May 12, 1941, the daughter of Floyd and Violet Meyer nee Loewe. Others survivors include four daughters, Zoe (Ray) Weakly, Angie (Will) Gregson, Susan (John) Novack, Jill (Glenn) Wehrheim; two brothers, Kenneth (Betty) Meyer, Sr. and David (Leslie) Meyer; eight grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Nov. 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church at Tipton with Father Eugene H. Wojcik officiating. Burial was at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Madonnaville.

OCTOBER
Lloyd E. Cowsert, 55, of Waterloo died Oct. 31. He was the husband of Regina D. Cowsert nee Johnson. He was born March 14, 1948 at Humboldt, TN the son of the late Malcolm W. and Melva E. (Turner) Cowsert. He was an accountant at First Illinois Bank. Survivors include four children, Kenneth E. Cowsert, Paul (Sarah) Cowsert, Mandy (Eric) Wetzel and Christian Cowsert; a grandson Paul Turner Cowsert, Jr.; two sisters, Cathy (Bob) Falkenhein and Juanita (Jerry) Richey; a nephew, Michael (Sheila) Cowsert. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Nov. 3 at Hope Christian Church the Rev. Darrell Jones officiating. Burial was at the JB National Cemetery.

Dorothy Mae (Mottley) Powers, 79, of Columbia died Oct. 30. She was the wife of the late James W. Powers. Mrs. Powers was born Oct. 7, 1924 at Millersburg, IN the daughter of the late Gilbert and Mary (Splittorff) Mottley. Survivors include a son James (Gloria) Powers; two sisters, Helen (Vernon) Phillips and Ellen Barnett; a brother Charles Mottley; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a caregiver for Copper Bend Sitters and a member of Trinity General Baptist Church. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Saturday, Nov. 1. A second funeral was Nov. 3 with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, IN.

Gladys G. (Barnett) Sabo, 94, of Columbia died Oct. 23. She was the wife of the late Robert M. Sabo, Jr. Survivors include grandchildren, Karen (Robert) Mitchell and Scott (Angela Rainey); two great granddaughters, Shanna Mitchell and Lindsay Mitchell; special friend, Pat Stern. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home with a funeral Oct. 25, the Rev. William Groennert officiating. Burial was at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Raymond Phillips, Sr., 87, of Waterloo died Oct. 23. He was the husband of Rosaline Phillips nee Plage. They were married Sept. 30, 1939 and were married 64 years. Besides his wife Mr. Phillips is survived by three children, Raymond "Butch" (Connie) Phillips, Jr., Patricia Ann (Donald) Todd and Wanda Lee Harr; seven grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He was a retired mechanic for the quarry at Valmeyer. He was born Jan. 20, 1916 the son of the late Daniel and Laura (nee Fox) Phillips. Quernheim Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Catherine M. Walsh nee Laber, 84, of Waterloo died Oct. 22. She was the wife of the late James T. Walsh, Sr. and was born Oct. 3, 1919 the daughter of the late Mike and Julia A. Laber nee Horwath. Survivors include three sons, Michael J. (Mariella) Walsh, Dr. James T. (Vicki) Walsh and Dale (Luann) Walsh; five daughters, Kathleen (Denis) Fahey, Margaret (David) Wilson, Theresa (Albert) Watters, Marilynn (Don) Roever, Mary Jacinta "Cindy" (Anthony) Gravagna; 26 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Mrs. Walsh was the organist at St. Patrick Catholic Church for 44 years. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at St. Patrick Catholic Church at Tipton Oct. 22 with Father Eugene H. Wojcik officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Fred O. Scheibe, 84,of Waterloo died Oct. 18. He was the husband of the late Florence B. Scheibe nee Rick. Mr. Scheibe was born Jan. 28,1919 the son of the late Max Sr. and Katie Scheibe nee Brandt. Survivors include three daughters, Betty (Fred) Runge, Charlotte (Lavern) Schmieg and Ruth Scheibe (Ron Childers); two sons, Delbert (Janet) Scheibe and Wilbert (Sandy) Scheibe; a sister Katherine Napier; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was a member of the K. of C. and the Waterloo Legion. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral as conducted Oct. 22 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial was at he church cemetery.

Helen L. Schaefer, nee Garleb, 91, of Waterloo died Oct. 17. She was the wife of the late Clarence A. Schaefer. Mrs. Schaefer was born Nov. 24, 1911 the daughter of the late Herman August and Emma Amelia Garleb nee Stemler. Survivors include two sisters, Vera Pflasterer and Leona Frank; and one brother Oliver Garleb. She was active in many organizations including the Fair Association, the Farm Bureau and the Home Extension. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was conducted Oct. 10 the Rev. David Riebeling officiating. Burial was at St. John Cemetery, Valmeyer.

Leah M. Jehling, 78, of Columbia died Oct. 16. She was the wife of Marvin J. Jehling. They were married May 18, 1946. Other survivors include a son Thomas J. (Barbara) Jehling, a daughter Barbara Lea (Don Schult) Jehling; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. She was born Sept. 11, 1925 at Waterloo the daughter of William C. and Elsie (Goeddel) Kolmer. A sister, Betty Cash, preceded her in death. She retired as a sales clerk from Famous Barr. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Oct. 20 the Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.

Marvin E. Rodenberg, 69, of Fults died Oct. 16. He was the husband of Loretta Rodenberg nee Rippelmeyer. Mr. Rodenberg was born March 31, 1934 at Fults the son of the late Otto and Louisa Rodenberg nee Schmidt. Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Mentel, Sandra (Julian) Ron and Shelly (Ken) Schneider; a son, Ricky (Karen) Rodenberg; a brother Earl (Glenna) Rodenberg; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home with a funeral Oct. 18 the Rev. Ivan Horn officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Lavina Susewind, 102, of Waterloo died Oct. 16. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Susewind nee Klostermann and was born April 11, 1901. Survivors include cousins and friends. Valerie S. Slaughter Binger, 37, of Waterloo died Oct. 15. She was the daughter of Viola Mehrtens and the late Cletus J. Slaughter. Survivors include a son Eric Slaughter and a daughter Clara Slaughter; two sisters, Angela (Barry) Pinkelton and Tina Jeffers; a brother Herbert Mehrtens, Jr.; stepfather Herbert Mehrtens; stepbrother Gary (Wanda) Mehrtens; stepsisters, Rebecca (Steve) Morrison and Lisa (Kevin) Tinsley; grandmother Dorothy Haney. She was an employee of Human Support Services. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was conducted Oct. 17. Burial was at Holy Cross Lutheran

Betty Ann Miller, nee Huebner, 72, of Waterloo died Oct. 15. She was the wife of David Miller and the daughter of the late William and Mathilda (nee Weber) Huebner. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Daniel (Anita) Miller and John (Susan) Miller; a daughter Julie (Scott) Sinn; six grandchildren and other relatives. There was no visitation or funeral. A reception in her memory was at her home Sunday, Oct. 26. Quernheim Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Lucille A. Whelan, nee Johanning, 93, of Waterloo died Oct. 9. She was the wife of the late Edward G. Whelan and was born June 17, 1910 the daughter of the late Henry and Christina Johanning nee Schmeding. Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Geri) Whelan and Donald (Janet) Whelan; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Oct. 11 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at Wartburg the Rev. Steven MacDougall officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Reginald Carver, 74, of Columbia died Oct. 7 at Columbia Convalescent Center. His wife Patricia A. survives him (Strus) Carver. They were married Dec. 22, 1956. Other survivors include two sons, Joe (Susan) Carver and Jim Carver; a daughter Jan (Chris) Schoenhoff; a sister Barbara (Bob) Valentine; a brother Charles (Mary) Carver; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Mr. Carver was born Feb. 26, 1928 at Boonville, MO. He was the son of the late Roy Lee and Sadie F. (Sachsenheimer) Carver. A brother Leon Carver also preceded him in death. He retired as a teacher, coach and athletic director at Valmeyer High School with 36 years of service. Mr. Carver was a staff sergeant in the Air Force during World Ward II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and American Legion Post 202 in Columbia, MO. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Saturday, Oct. 11 the Rev. Bill Groennert officiating. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.

Arline M. Gant, 88, of Waterloo died Oct. 6. He was the husband of Mary Gant nee Dinan. Other survivors include three sons, James (Claudia) Gant, Robert (Pam) Gant, Lawrence (Noreen) Gant; two daughters, Lori (Glenn) Reams and Rita Bachelier (John Fries); 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a retired meat cutter and a member of Metzger-Crook VFW Post 6504 and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Mr. Gant was born Oct. 28,1914 at Fults the son of the late James L. and Gertrude Gant nee Abell. Besides his parents, an infant brother and a sister, Mildred Conrad, preceded him in death. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was Oct. 9 at SS Peter and Paul Church with Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Marvin J. Marquardt, 64, of Waterloo died Oct. 6. He was the husband of Marlene Marquardt nee Stumpf. Mr. Marquardt was born July 13, 1939 at Waterloo the son of Anna Marquardt (nee Schreder and the late Robert L. Marquardt. Other survivors include four sons, Steven (Kathy), John (Gina), Jeremy (Angela) and James (Sarah) Marquardt; three sisters, Ina Riebeling, Darlene (Harvey) Prange and Bobbie Ann (Kevin) Farmer; three brothers, Lew (Sharon), Stanley (Bonnie) and Ivan (Peggy) Marquardt; three grandchildren and others relatives. He was a retired lineman for Waterloo, a member of the VFW and Local 309 IBEW. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo the Rev. Kevin Brown officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Richard V. Cadman, 64, of Waterloo died Oct. 5. He is survived by his wife Stella Cadman nee Risdal; two sons Robert (Elaine) Cadman and Charles Cadman; his mother Genevieve Cadman; a brother Berwyn (Janelle) Cadman; and a sister Shirley Cadman. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at Immanuel Lutheran Church the Rev. Tony Troup and Pastor Kyle Sandersfeld officiating. Burial was at Newark, WI.

SEPTEMBER

Nathan S. Lowe, 16, died Saturday, Sept. 27 as a result of an automobile accident. He was the son of Vicky S. (Poenitske) Lowe and Michael H. Payne. He was born July 9, 1987. Two brothers, Jason L. Dell and his twin, Daniel E. Lowe, who was also injured in the accident, survive him. Other survivors include an aunt, Marian (Arland) Rey. He worked part-time at the Lantern Restaurant and was a junior at WHS. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home where a funeral was Oct. 7. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.
