April Paul Edward Julius, 81, of Dupo, died April 2, 2008, in Waterloo. He was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Dupo, the son of the late Herman and Mary Julius nee Maupin. Mr. Julius is survived by his brother Vernon Julius of Olympia, Wash.; sister Ruth Kohlenberger of Dupo; special friend Rita McLain of Dupo; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret Brown. Mr. Julius was retired from Monsanto in Sauget. He was a charter member of VFW Post 6368 in Dupo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the 511th Parachute Infantry Division. Marguerite M. Heap, 94, of Red Bud, died April 4, 2008, in Red Bud. She was born June 24, 1913, in Smithton, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Benedick nee Schanz. She married the late Edwin Heap in 1933; he preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Heap is survived by her nieces and nephews Curt (Betty) Benedick of Smithton, Gordon Benedick of Smithton, Jim (Joan) Woods of Smithton, Sharon Kaiser of Smithton, Dave (Jackie) Benedick of Ballwin, Mo., Charles Christian of St. Louis, Mary Scheurle of Overland, Mo., and Gary (Rosemarie) Fitzgerald of Millstadt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters Kate, Olivia, Olga, Irma, Anna and Lillian; and brothers Leroy, Walter and Wilbert. Bommarito Jr., 50, of Waterloo, died April 7, 2008, in Columbia. He was born June 21, 1957, in St. Louis, the son of Elsie Bommarito of Joliet and the late Vincent J. Bommarito Sr. He was married to Linda Bommarito nee Benne. Mr. Bommarito is survived by his wife; children Melissa (David) Allen of Waterloo, Stephanie Bommarito of Waterloo, Aaron Bommarito of Waterloo, and Ryan Bommarito of Waterloo; brother Salvatore (Arlene) Bommarito of Texas; sister Patricia (Paul) Norris of Naperville; father- and -mother-in-law Harold and Florence Benne of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Katherine Mae "Kate" Koerber nee Wild, 74, of Waterloo, died April 7, 2008, in Waterloo. She was born May 6, 1933, in Belleville, the daughter of the late George and Margaret Wild nee Egger. She married Hubert G. Koerber Sr. in 1952; he preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Stechmesser is survived by her sons Glenn E. Stechmesser of Columbia, and Arnold E. She was born Oct. 25, 1935, in Thebes, the daughter of the late Amos Franklin and Lucy Bledsoe nee Shaver. She was married to the late Charles Buckman. Mrs. Buckman is survived by her children Charles Buckman Jr., Teresa (Brian) Tucker, Pam (Glenn) Crook, Karl (Candace) Buckman, and Jason (Erica) Buckman; grandchildren Charles III and Katie Buckman, Nicholas and Lauren Tucker, Jesse and Curtis Crook, Zachary and Isaac Buckman, and Jenna and Andrew Buckman; sister Blanche (Winston) Wehmeyer; sisters-and -brothers-in-law J.C. and Geneva Buckman, and Virginia and Norman Elliot; along with nieces and nephews. Mrs. Steinmann is survived by her children Patricia (LeRoy) Garleb of Valmeyer, Sandra J. Vogt nee Berry, 84, of Waterloo, died April 11, 2008, in St. Louis. She was born May 15, 1923, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Charles and Freida Berry nee Cissell. She was married to the late Erwin R. Vogt. Mrs. Vogt is survived by her daughter Susan Ward and granddaughters Katie DeBonis and Beth DeBonis; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Vogt was a former member of Monroe County Home Extension. She was born April 21, 1925, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late George and Theodora (Janice) Morgan. She was married to the late Mervin Bauchens. Mrs. Bauchens is survived by her friend Maryann Chilovich of Columbia; and her beloved pets, Casey and Andy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers. Mrs. Bauchens was the owner and operator of Bauchens and Morgan Women's Clothing Shop in Dupo. Private graveside services were held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County. Travis Wren, 38, of Red Bud, died April 15, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 17, 1970, at St. Clement's Hospital in Red Bud, the son of Gerry Wren nee Dougherty of Red Bud and the late Walter Wren. Mr. Wren is survived by his daughter Emma Jones; sister Susan (Mike) Kosydor of Waterloo; niece Kelly Kosydor; and nephew Mike Kosydor. He was preceded in death by grandparents James and Mary Wren, and James and Effie Dougherty. He was employed as a forklift operator. Memorials may be made to the family. Bruce Dalman, 38, died April 17, 2008, at his parent's home in rural Waterloo. He was born Feb. 21, 1970, the son of Ernest and Mary Dalman nee Brand. In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers Keith (Nora Sunman) Dalman of Waterloo and Bryan Dalman of Waterloo; and niece Mara Dalman of Waterloo; along with aunts, uncles and friends. He was born April 29, 1951, in Red Bud, the son of Alvin and Arlou Borcharding nee Janson of Columbia. He married Marilyn Borcharding nee Metter in 1971. Mr. Borcharding is survived by his parents; wife; brother Tom Borcharding of Columbia; and nieces and nephews Jon Borcharding, Brandon, Kevin, and Andrew Costello, Stephanie Metter, Abbey and Kelly Metter; along with other relatives and friends. Mr. Borcharding was a member of U.S. Army 892nd Transportation Company and was an Army veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Vivian McDonald nee Turley, 94, of Waterloo, died April 21, 2008, in Red Bud. She was born Feb. 25, 1914, in Central City, Ky., the daughter of the late Jadie and Ada Turley, nee Grosse. She was married to the late Joseph McDonald. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her sisters Rebecca Peterson and Anna Francis; and brother Marion Turley; along with nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and five sisters. Mrs. McDonald was a member St. Paul United Church of Christ of Waterloo and Eastern Star. Olga Marie Nabers of Hillsboro, formerly of Valmeyer, died April 21, 2008, in Springfield. She was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Tilset, Mo., the youngest daughter of the late Gustav Adolph and Bertha Kamp Zeller. She married the late Auval "Slim" Nabers in 1948. Mrs. Nabers is survived by her daughter Maribeth (David) Rahe of Hillsboro; step-children Fanny Sue (the late Albert Jr.) Schellhardt and Lowell (Dorothy) Nabers; grandsons Nathan and Zachary Rahe, Michael, Steven and Joel Schellhardt and Keith and Todd Nabers; and nine great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded death by her parents, husband, brothers Paul Zeller of Chicago and Edward Zeller of Jackson, Mo. and sister Hilda Maevers of Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mrs. Nabers was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilset, Mo., and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo since 1948. She was a graduate of College High School in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She taught school for 35 years in Matthews, Mo. (three years), Waterloo (six years) and Valmeyer (26 years). Along with Paul Randolph, she founded an educational and social group for couples made up of veterans and their families in Valmeyer. She was also an adult leader of Valley Maids 4-H Club and was active in Monroe County Extension at the local and county level and was a life member of Illinois Retired Teacher's Association. He was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Waterloo, the son of the late Herman C. and Louise Winkler nee Eckert. Mr. Winkler is survived by his daughters Deborah (John) Graeler, Teresa (Roger) Raglin, Pamela (Tracy) Rolstad, and Marcia (John) Schotz; 10 grandchildren; brother Herman R. Ronald C. Schrauth, 74, of Millstadt, died April 22, 2008. He was born Sept. 9, 1933, the son of the late Cletus and Lauretta Schrauth. He was married to the late Rochelle K. Schrauth. Mr. Schrauth is survived by his children Renee Friederich of Mascoutah, Rhonda (Randy) Beare of Millstadt, Ramona Schrauth of Belleville, and Rebecca Schrauth of Millstadt; grandchildren Laura (J.T.) She was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Scott City, Mo., the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Rowe nee Mason. She married Kelvia Lee Biggs in 1934; he preceded her in death in 1996. James Wenkel, 49, of Columbia, died March 5, 2005, at his residence following a long battle with cancer. He loved the outdoors and loved hunting with his “hunting family.” He was the Franklin County Ducks Unlimited president for five years, and he organized wildlife events and supported local wildlife organizations for many years. He also very much enjoyed his new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He died trying to help a co-worker and friend. He was involved with the Battle of Ripcord, the last major battle of the Vietnam War. He was in A Battery 2/11th Artillery 4th section 155 Howitzer. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Cluster and other service awards. He was a member of the Ripcord Association, a group of Vietnam veterans who were on and around Fire Base Ripcord in 1970, which sustained one of the greatest losses of troops in the Vietnam War. The Ripcord Vets meet annually for a convention and other excursions to enjoy each other’s company and reminisce about their experiences. Pallbearers at the funeral were members of this organization.
