Area Establishments Hold Mardi Gras Celebrations


Garrett Hawkins, Kim McNiel and Aaron McNiel celebrated Mardi Gras at Bobeck’s in Waterloo.

Sheryl Rice and Keith Buescher continue to recover following a collision Thursday morning along Bluff Road at HH Road. Rice, 40, of Waterloo received minor injuries when her Chevy Tracker collided with a Chick Fritz Distributing truck driven by Buescher, 38, of Lenzburg. Buescher received a large cut on his head requiring five staples. According to the police report, Rice lost control of her vehicle after drive over cinders on the roadway.

Frank Wappel accidentally drove a snowmobile over a natural gas valve in the front of a friend’s home at Route 156 (the Valmeyer highway) near Deer Hill Road Saturday night. The Waterloo Fire Department responded and shut off the leak. An Ameren crew arrived later that evening to repair the valve.

Gerry Roscow is recovering at Oak Hill Nursing Home following a fall last Sunday.

Bryan and Julie Washausen are the parents of a daughter, Anna June. She was born Feb. 16. “Mother and baby are doing outstanding,” said Bryan.

Recent Obituaries
Emilie Steinsieck, nee Buettner, 97, of Waterloo, died Feb. 18. Survivors include children Eunice (Arthur) Stroh and Carol (David) Sondag; and grandchildren Sheryl (Jay) Lewis, Stacy Sondag (Joe Federhofer), Michelle (Dave ) Zaiz and Curt (Ericha) Sondag. She was preceded in death by husband, Theodore Steinsieck; brother, Victor Buettner Sr.; and sisters Anna Johanning, Ilo Thorburg and Martha Schmeding. Visitation is Tuesday, Feb. 20, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wartburg.

John Kelley Jr., 87, of East Carondelet died Feb. 18. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was retired from Curtis Manufacturing in Wellston, Mo. as a heat treat operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Kelley, and son, John M. Wilson. Survivors include daughters Ruth Bell and Elizabeth Habert; and son, Everett Wilson. Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Dashner Funeral Home in Dupo. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m.
