Breaking News - April 8, 2007 Truck Collides With Moving Train ![]() Emergency workers prepare the accident victims to be transported onto waiting ambulances and an Arch helicopter. Three people were injured Easter Sunday when the truck they were riding in slammed into a train near the intersection of Outlet Road and Bluff Road, just north of Chalfin Bridge. A man from Columbia, two children and a dog had just left a cabin atop the bluff in a Chevy Silverado and were heading west along a rock road on their way to Bluff Road. As the man attempted to cross the railroad tracks, he noticed a northbound train was headed their way. He shifted the truck into reverse and attempted to pull away, but he could not avoid the collision. The impact occurred on the front of the driver’s side of the vehicle, causing the truck to be thrown off the roadway and into a nearby field. Maeystown and Valmeyer firefighters along with Sheriff’s deputies assisted the Monroe County Ambulance Service to extricate the driver and the passengers from the truck. The driver’s injuries, though not considered life threatening, required him to be transported by Arch helicopter to a St. Louis hospital. The children were taken by ambulance to an area hospital for minor injuries. The dog was not injured. Their names have not yet been released. ![]() An Arch helicopter lifts off from Sunday’s accident scene along Bluff Road. |
