As of 1 p.m. today, polls around Monroe County were experiencing low voter turnout. “The rural county polls are very slow today,” said County Clerk Dennis Knobloch.

The cities of Waterloo and Columbia were showing about 20 percent of registered voters casting their ballots at mid-day. Polls close this evening at 7 p.m. Knobloch said official totals should be ready sometime after 10:30 p.m. tonight.

Preparing to vote today at Turner Hall for Columbia’s ward 3 are Peggy Kelemetc, right, and Sara Kelemetc, assisted by poll judges, left to right, Betty Courtney, JoAnn Weisenborn, Elaine Matlock and Gene Courtney.

Bullet Found In Waterloo High School
A .22 caliber bullet was discovered yesterday near the end of the school day in a Waterloo High School boys’ locker room.

Waterloo Police Chief Joe Brauer said he does not believe whoever brought the bullet into school meant harm to anyone, and that it may have accidentally fallen out of a student who hunts’ pocket. Classes resumed today without incident.
