City Council Wrap-Up - May
7,
2007

Columbia aldermen elected April 17,
left to right, incumbent Dan Row, and new aldermen Fred Stumpf,
Candace Hejna and Brad Oberkfell were sworn in at the May 7 city
council meeting by city clerk Wes Hoeffken.

Newly sworn-in Waterloo Mayor Tom
Smith, right, congratulates Dan Hayes during Monday night’s city
council meeting on his appointment as the new Waterloo city
attorney. Hayes, a Belleville attorney, is
considered a municipal law specialist, being an attorney for the
Mascoutah and Belleville East school districts, and the attorney for
the Village of Sauget and the American Bottoms Utility. Hayes was
recommended by Waterloo resident and attorney Bill Schmitt, Smith’s
initial choice for attorney.

Longtime Waterloo Police Officer Jim
Trantham, first row, second from left, is
congratulated by area police officers, deputies and troopers after
he was appointed as the new Waterloo Chief of Police. Alderman
Jeremy Krump and Steve Notheisen were the two “no” votes on the
Trantham appointment decision. Alderman Rita Trantham, wife of
Officer Trantham, chose to abstain.

Waterloo Aldermen Jim Hopkins, second
from left, and Rita Trantham, congratulate former Waterloo Police
Chief Joe Brauer, left, and former City Attorney Tom LeChien
for their four years of hard work. Brauer and LeChien were appointed
by now former Waterloo Mayor Terry Kipping, who did not attend
Monday night’s meeting.
