Angela Finch Pleads Guilty To
Embezzling $625,000 The offenses carry a total statutory maximum punishment of up to 23 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, three years supervised release and mandatory restitution. Finch is scheduled to be sentenced August 31, 2007. According to court reports, Finch was employed as the office manager for Heartland Barge Management from July 2001 to August 2006. During her employment she made unauthorized electronic funds transfers from a corporate bank account to her personal account. To cover up the embezzled funds she created fictitious vendor invoices and made false journal entries in the general ledger for the business. During that same time, she failed to report the embezzled funds as income on her federal income tax returns. Finch’s total tax due for the years 2001 to 2005 for the unreported income was approximately $136,000. Finch allegedly used some of the funds to start and run a business owned by a family member, pay off credit cards and student loans, purchase vehicles, a motorcycle, a four-wheeler, a swimming pool, clothing and vacations to Florida, Mexico and other locations, according to the court report. The investigation was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service, Office of Criminal Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by United States Attorney Norman Smith.
