Area farmers began harvesting their wheat crops last week and are hoping to finish later this week. – photo by Ed Rahe Maeystown farmer Roger Taake took an hour lunch with his family on Father’s Day, but soon headed back onto the combine. With Monday’s impending rain, Taake worked hard to complete his wheat harvest. Youth Injured In Two-Vehicle Accident ![]() A young man received minor injuries in an accident Saturday afternoon on Route 3 in Waterloo. The initial report is a GMC Jimmy was stopped at a red light in the northbound lane of Route 3 at the intersection of Route 158 / Park Street when it was rear-ended by a Jeep Cherokee. The passenger in the Jimmy, the young man, was the only person requiring medical attention. Names of those involved have not yet been released. The Columbia Volunteer Fire Department responded Saturday night to a report of thick, black smoke emanating from property on Triple Lakes Road. Upon investigation it was determined the landowner was burning old tires. Jennifer Berg and Orville Hill of East Carondelet announce the birth of their son, Levi Robert. Levi was born June 10, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Carol and Floyd Floarke of Valmeyer and Dave and Sandy Berg of Maeystown. Sherri (Suttner from home) Voelker celebrated her 31st birthday Friday evening at Bobeck’s with a gathering of friends and family. A highlight of her day was dining on White Castles for lunch. Milton and Florence Mueller celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 14 with a family dinner at Bully’s. They were married June 14, 1947, at St. John UCC of Maeystown by the Rev. Emil F. Hotz. The wedding reception of Cole Dreher and Holly Mitchell was Saturday evening at Turner Hall. Shutterbugs Don Voelker and Rich Dreher took numerous photos, even more so than the Ed-itor, insuring comprehensive coverage event of the big society event in the next edition of the paper. Former major league pitcher T.J. Mathews was spotted at the Dreher / Mitchell wedding reception. Mathews, his wife and newborn recently moved back to the St. Louis area. The 1988 CHS graduate is now offering pitching instructions. Karen Valerius celebrated her birthday Saturday night at her in-laws place, Butch and Laurie Sparwasser of Wartburg. |
