Co-Op
Customers Asked To Cut Back On Electric Us “With the extremely high temperatures our electric load capacity is near its maximum,” said Co-Op President Alan Wattles. Electric customers should cut back on their usage during peak usage times of 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., by taking small measures like turning thermostats up a few degrees and delaying activities that contribute to the peak load condition, such as washing and drying clothes will help reduce the burden, Wattles said. The city of Waterloo, which, like the co-op, receives their electric from AmerenIP, has also experienced high usage rates during the heat wave. “We set an all-time peak record for usage this week,” said Waterloo Public Utilities Director Tim Birk. Because Waterloo’s lines service a much-smaller area compared to the co-op lines, Waterloo is not experiencing peak load conditions, Birk said.
