Collides With Train At Maeys Station Maeystown Firefighters Stop Leaking Gas: The Maeystown Fire Department was called to stop a leaking propane tank Sunday afternoon on Maus Road at the home of Mike and Linda Rettig. At 4 p.m., Linda heard a loud noise outside her home coming from their L.P. tank. She quickly called 911, turned off their electricity and contacted her husband. She then took the children to a neighbor’s house to wait at a safer location. “It appears the tank was overfilled and today’s warm temperatures caused the cap to pop,” said Maeystown Fire Chief Lyndie Prange. Maeystown firefighters poured water on the tank to cool it and the leak soon stopped. After the firefighters made sure the home was safe, the Rettigs were allowed to return to their home. A motorcyclist was injured Sunday afternoon in an accident at the intersection of Route 158 and Bohleysville Road. The biker, whose name has not been identified, was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A vacant home in Dupo was completely destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. A motorist driving at 2 a.m. on Route 3 over the canal bridge between Cahokia and Dupo noticed flames coming from a residence and called 911. When police officers arrived on the scene, a home at Jess and McBride was completely engulfed in flames. The Dupo Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Cahokia and Prairie Du Pont, but they could not save the structure. “There was no one in the home and there were no injuries,” said Dupo Fire Chief Kurt Johnson.
