Transport Plane Circles Columbia

Large military transport airplanes have been circling over the skies of Columbia most of the afternoon. A spokesperson from Scott Air Force Base stated they are conducting certified training operations in this area of Southern Illinois.

Four Waterloo High School students are recovering from staph infections. They are being treated by their doctor. The school has been cleaned per health department requirements.

Recent Obituaries
Paul Wiersch, 67, of South Carolina, formerly of Waterloo, died Sept. 18. He was raised by Paul and Agatha Muertz. He graduated from Gibault High School and was a 20-year Navy veteran. His body was cremated and there was no visitation. Memorial made be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o DeFabio Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Shirlean Faust, 77, of Columbia, died Sept. 24, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Columbia Alter Sodality, American Legion Post 581 Auxiliary, Columbia Senior Citizens and Monroe County Farm Bureau. She was a homemaker, retired farmer and retired Columbia school bus driver. She was preceded in death by husband, Walter Faust, who died in 1981. Survivors include son, Wayne Faust of Columbia; brother, Ron Staher; and friends Sue Welchhance, Bernice and Kathleen. Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 26, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m.
