Truck And Car Collide Sunday In Waterloo

A pick-up truck and a compact car collided Sunday night at the intersection of GG Road and Moore Road in rural Waterloo. The driver of the truck, a man from Red Bud, was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Belleville with a neck injury. Names and the cause of the accident have not been released.

Independent’s Win Softball Tournament

The Independent softball team won the Waterloo Sports Association’s Class A co-ed softball fall league and tournament Saturday at the Jaycees ball diamonds. .

The Monroe County Community Emergency Response Team will have an informational meeting Monday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m., at  the Hecker Community Center. CERT are second responders who educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area, provides basic disaster response skills and assists people in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when first responders are not immediately available to help. Chris and Denise (Blevins) Garrett are the proud parents of their first child, son Alexander Glenn Garrett. Grandparents are Mark and Laura (Ziegler) Blevins and Harold and Karen Garrett. Great-grandparents are George (and the late Cynthia) Ziegler. Laura reports both baby and Denise are doing fine, and the baby is just as beautiful as Aunt Linda.  

Recent Obituaries
Abrin Boykin, 68, of East Carondelet, died Nov. 1, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Boykin. Survivors include sons Jimmie, Teddy and Edward Boykin; daughters, Dorothy Boykin and Geniene (John) Fremont; sisters Carolyn Bruce and Stella Boykin; and brother, Cecil Boykin. Visitation is Monday, Nov. 5, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Dashner Funeral Home in Dupo. Funeral is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 11 a.m., at Dashners.

Frances Smith, 88, of Raton, New Mexico, died Nov. 1. She was born in Columbia in 1919, the daughter of the late Harry and Myrtle Reichert. Survivors include daughter, Karen (Hal) Carter; brothers Harry (Winona) Reichert and Dale (Lela) Reichert, both of Columbia; and sister, Virginia Freimuth of Columbia. She was  preceded in death by her husband, O. Beryl Smith, who died in 1988. Visitation is Nov. 7, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Hone. Funeral is Nov. 8, 11 a.m., at Lawlors.

Frances Heil, 97, of Dupo, died Nov. 1, at Columbia Convalescent Center. She was  preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Heil; son, Joe Heil; daughter, Dorothy Crouch; sisters Theresa Phodrasky and Gisella Carrilo; and relatives in Austria.
