Eagles Beat Greenville In Semifinal Game; Headed To Play For State Football Title

Columbia Eagles fans celebrate after their team’s victory today over Greenville.

It took four quarters and two overtimes for the Columbia High School Eagles football team to win the Class 3A semi-final playoff game today over the previously undefeated Greenville Comets. A blocked extra point by CHS’s Alex Quinn secured a 40-39 home field victory for the Eagles. After that final play, the cheerleaders and band led a rush of fans onto the field to celebrate with the team. Columbia is headed to the football state championship for the first time in its history. They will play the winner of this evening’s match-up between Aurora-Christian and Plano. The championship game will be next Friday, at 4 p.m., at the University of Illinois football field in Champaign.
