Hope For The Thanksgiving Holiday

Jane Wood, Malissa Clark and Mary Esker were three of the Hope Christian Church volunteers who handed out 180 turkey dinners for the area needy earlier this week. The church is also coordinating a program to distribute clothes and toys to children for Christmas.

A Thanksgiving Message From Waterloo Mayor Tom Smith
"Even though after walking around the stores you may think it’s Christmas, but Thanksgiving is today. As you gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, please pause for a moment to express your thanks for the bounty of blessings we all enjoy. We live in a prosperous city where neighbors look out for one another, where our children can play outside without fear of harm and where the community really comes together to continuously improve our city.

Let’s also remember those who have allowed us to enjoy these freedoms and luxuries. America is the land of abundance, prosperity and hope, and we should not take for granted the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform who fight to ensure our liberty.

I also ask you to remember those who may not have a family to spend the holidays with and those who do not have access to a warm Thanksgiving meal. I hope this holiday you will not only give thanks for the blessings in your lives, but also reach out to a neighbor in need, for that is the true spirit of Thanksgiving.

I personally would like to give a special thanks to the Waterloo City Council. This group truly cares about our community and works very diligently to guarantee that Waterloo remains a great place to live. I thank you for your cooperation and dedication to the city.

Have a great Thanksgiving.
