E-Newsletter - December 21, 2007 Woman Injured In Rollover Accident
One person was injured today in a three-vehicle accident on the north end of Columbia. A woman driving a Ford Explorer was trapped after her vehicle collided with a Cadillac, and hit a median and rolled several times. The Explorer came to rest on its side, propped against a four-door Ford. The accident occurred just after noon at the intersection of Old State Route 3 and Palmer Road, just west of the Commercial State Bank branch. Columbia firefighters used Jaws of Life equipment to help Columbia Ambulance Service personnel extricate the woman from the vehicle. She was transported to Barnes Hospital with injuries to her head and arm. The injuries were not considered life-threatening. Columbia police officers will participate in the national “You Drink and Drive. You Lose” traffic safety campaign from Dec. 17 to Jan. 1. The Illinois Department of Transportation’s traffic safety division will fund the overtime hours required of the officers for the extra holiday patrols. “Officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, speeding other offenses that contribute to traffic crashes,” said Columbia Deputy Chief of Police Jerry Paul.
John Coats reports he is in excellent health and plans to run for mayor of Columbia in 2009. Coats said he had been hearing rumors to the contrary. Numerous Monroe County homes are reported to be beautifully decorated with Christmas lights. They include Ricky Matzenbacher’s place on Goeddeltown Town. A friend of his thinks the lights compare to the Griswold house from the movie Christmas Vacation. Leroy Brandt also has a large display at his place on Brandt Road, between Fults and Maeystown. The Poetker family has once again put up their scenic display. Their farm is located on Gilmore Lake Road, just north of Country Club Lane in rural Waterloo.
