Bulldogs Homecoming Parade Returns
The City of
Waterloo received the 2008 Sister City of the Year award
from the Illinois State
Chapter of Sister Cities International.
Mark Rohr was
recognized Friday for his 25 years of employment
at the law office of Crowder
and Scoggins in Columbia. He is a senior member of the law firm and heads up the
domestic relations section and is engaged in the municipal law and estate areas
of the law. The Waterloo VFW will only have bingo tonight. Fish will not be served while they continue to repair a utility issue at the hall.
Winning the 14th annual Immaculate Conception School / Joe Hoguet Memorial Golf Tournament for the second year in a row was the team of Jeff Riebeling, Justin Toal and Dale Anderson. Riebeling and Toal are ICS grads, while Anderson is in his 28th year as a teacher. The event, held at Columbia Golf Course, benefits the school’s computer and athletic programs.
Congratulations to Andrea Jones and Andrew Glessner. Andrew popped the big question in mid-September at Crown Valley Winery in St. Genevieve, Mo. The couple is now planning their wedding arrangements.
The Gibault Hawks soccer team defeated Althoff Thursday evening by a score of 1-0. Brent Russell was the lone goal scorer.
The Red Bud High School Homecoming Parade is today, Friday, at 5 p.m. The Musketeers football team takes on Central this evening in their homecoming game.
St. John the Baptist of Red Bud’s Father Tom Stout reports a wedding rehearsal will be taking place this evening at the same time as the RBHS Homecoming festivities, but he thinks everyone in the family should find a parking spot. Father Stout was spotted at Quernheim Funeral Home this afternoon paying his respects to the late Bob Krump. Grade School baseball team defeated Prairie du Rocher
on Tuesday by a score of 7-5
to advance to the state tournament. They will face Woodlawn on Saturday in
Coulterville.

Recent Obituaries Bernell “Butch” Moll, 56, of Hecker, died Oct. 1, 2008, in Hecker. He was born June 18, 1952 in Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Moll is survived by his children Carly (Bob) Hamilton, Seth Moll and Jesse Moll; grandchildren Brittany and Tabatha, P.J. Cowsert and Savannah Cowsert; his mother, Joan Moll; brothers Chuck (Rose Ann) Moll and Bob (Cheryl) Moll; and sister, Jackie Moll; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many church friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernell Moll; and son, Zachary Moll. Mr. Moll was a member of Hope Christian Church and Alcoholics For Christ. Visitation is Saturday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m., until the service at 11 a.m., at Hope Christian Church in Columbia. Pastor Darrell Jones will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation. Robert C. Krump, 77, of Waterloo, died Oct. 1, 2008, at his residence in Waterloo. He was born April 16, 1931 in Lebanon, the son of the late Ellsworth and Cleolia (nee Huster) Krump. Mr. Krump is survived by his children, Jeff Krump, Janet Parrin, Joyce (Jim) Russell, Jay (Karen) Krump, Joe Krump, Jody (Jeff) Taake and Jeremy Krump; 13 grandchildren; and sisters Elizabeth Brennan and Phyllis Krump; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae "Toots" Krump nee Becker; and a sister, Mary Wolf. Mr. Krump was a former mayor and alderman for the city of Waterloo, and currently served on the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a retired engineer for Emerson Electric. He was a member of the S.S. Peter and Paul Church in Waterloo, Metzger Crook VFW Post 6504, Waterloo Rotary, University of Illinois Alumni and the Beaver Lake Fishing Club of Wartburg. Visitation is Friday, Oct. 3, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 4, 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Saturday, Oct. 4, 10 a.m., at SS. Mary Elmona McCarty, 77, of Red Bud, died Oct. 1, 2008. She was born March 28, 1931, in Prairie du Rocher, the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Bernadine “Bernie” (nee Little) Merlenbach. She married C.J. “Mac” McCarty in 1958 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McCarty is survived by her children, Kathy (Ron) Barbeau of Red Bud, Jim (Jeanie) McCarty of Virginia Beach, Va. And Mike McCarty of Millstadt; grandchildren, Megan Barbeau, Kelsey Barbeau, Brock McCarty and Eve McCarty; and step-grandchildren, Courtney and Dakota Hoffman; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, John “Sonny” Merlenbach; and in-laws Boyd and Viola McCarty. She worked at St. Clement Hospital for 12 years and at Niermann Amoco and Braun Oil Co., for 19 years. Mrs. McCarty was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud and St. Ann Altar Sodality. She was involved in the church’s bingo and picnic. There will be a private visitation. Funeral is Saturday, Oct. 4, 9:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Msrg. Marvin Volk officiating. She will be buried at the church’s cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church’s parish center. Memorials may be made to St. John Catholic School in Red Bud, St. James Catholic School in Millstadt or Gibault Catholic High School in Waterloo. Martin Brown, 79, of Columbia, died Sept. 28, at Columbia Convalescent Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Edwin and Mildred (Schmitt) Brown. He married Doris (Aulbach) Brown in 1956 in St. Louis. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by son Steve Brown of Columbia and David Brown of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters Linda (Gary) Wiederhold of Columbia, Mo, and Kathy (Roger) Safriet of High Ridge, Mo.; grandchildren Eric and Jennifer Wiederhold, Michael and Ashley Safriet and Jessica (Jon) DeWitt; and great-granddaughter Jenna Dewitt. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from IBM. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home. He was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of the Humane Society of Monroe County. Sharron L. Gerber nee Bruce, 69, of Waterloo, died Sept. 28, 2008, in Waterloo. She was born Oct. 4, 1938, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Loren Bruce Sr. and Ina Bruce nee Pugh. She was married to the late Edwin J. “Curley” Gerber. Mrs. Berber is survived by her children Patti (Robert) Whitworth of Raleigh, N.C., and Donna (John) Robert of Waterloo; grandchildren Sarah (Nick) McLamb of Willow Spring, N.C., Shawn Whitworth of Nashville, Tenn., Melissa Robert of Waterloo and Andrew Robert of Waterloo; great-grandchildren Will McLamb and Walker McLamb; siblings Joan Tebbenhoff of Terre du Lac, Mo., Carolyn (Joe) Knepper of Belleville, Peggy (Tony) Sosa of Pineville, La., Winona (Harry) Reichert of Columbia, and Loren (Jeanette) Bruce Jr. of Waterloo; dear friend Anne Marie Wilson of Waterloo; and her beloved dog Belle; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Jeannette Parks, and her children’s father, William G. Smith Jr. Mrs. Gerber was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ of Waterloo and the American Legion Auxiliary. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC of Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. She was buried at the Waterloo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church.
