Eagles To Square Off Against Greenville In Highland For Next Week’s Playoff Game

The Blue Pride fans of the Columbia Eagles will play Greenville next Saturday at Highland High School’s field. Kick off for this third-round playoff game is at 2 p.m. Both teams are 11-0.

The public is invited to attend a Veteran’s Day Service Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Columbia American Legion Hall. It begins at 11 a.m.

A wreath-laying service will be held at Lakeview Park in Waterloo at 11 a.m. on Veteran’s Day.

Drury House Rings In Christmas Shopping Season

During last Sunday’s Christmas Open House at Drury House in Waterloo, Joy Kocher, right, helps Erin and Jared Goessling pick out an ornament. The store, located on Moore Street next to Gibault, features fresh and silk flowers, home décor and seasonal decorations. Their extended holiday hours are until 7 p.m. Monday – Thursday and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

The Red Bud Holiday Happenings is Sunday, Nov. 23. The Waterloo Downtown Merchant’s Christmas Walk and the Columbia Christmas Cruise are both on Sunday, Nov. 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maeystown’s Old-Fashioned German Christmas is slated from Sunday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 

Millstadt’s Zion Church Kicks Off Christmas Season

Elle Doerr, Tina Doerr and Katelyn Strobo participate in the lantern parade Sunday evening during the Zion Evangelical Church of Millstadt’s second annual St. Martin's Day German Celebration. Activities included a puppet show and plenty of food, including hot dogs, potato soup and pretzels.

Recent Obituary

Loren “Bub” Muskopf, 91, of Millstadt, died Nov. 8, 2008, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. He was born Nov. 30, 1916, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Adolph and Marry Mamie (nee Boeckstiegal) Muskopf. Mr. Muskopf was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine (nee Pistor) Muskopf; and a brother, Kenneth Muskopf. He is survived by a sister, Almira Mueth of Millstadt; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends. Mr. Muskopf served in U.S. Army during World War II, was a charter member of the Millstadt VFW Post 7980 and belonged to the St. Clair County Farm Bureau. He worked at Cargill Seed. After his retirement he tended bar at West End Tavern in Millstadt.  Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. A private burial will take place at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or the Millstadt VFW Post 7980.
