Christian Church Distributes Food to Area Needy Hope Christian Church distributed on Saturday enough food to feed 1,450 people on Thanksgiving. The 275 baskets they handed out to area needy included 160 frozen turkeys and 200 chickens. “We are so thankful to all those who donated food and money to provide this bountiful feast to those in the community who need it the most,” said Mary Esker, one of the organizers of the annual event. Also serving on the food pantry committee with Esker are Melissa Clark, Dick Eiskant and Jane Wood. “When the program was started in 1997, we only had enough food to serve 30 people,” said Esker. “But it has grown to help so many more.”
Cub and Boy Scouts from Columbia collected 1,300 bags of food on Saturday during the annual Scouting For Food Drive. The items were distributed to the St. Paul Lutheran and Hope Christian Church food pantries.
