Man Injured In Rollover Accident In Rural Hecker

A man received serious injuries early Friday morning when his Chevy S-10 truck rolled on J Road, just south of Route 156 in rural Hecker. The truck went off the roadway at 5:30 a.m., rolled and landed on its wheels in a ditch near the Lake of the Woods subdivision. Hecker firefighters used Jaws of Life equipment to help Monroe County Ambulance Service personnel extricate the victim from the truck. An Arch helicopter transported the individual, whose name has not yet been released, to a St. Louis hospital.

The Waterloo Lions Club served free turkey dinners with all the trimmings on Thanksgiving at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School cafeteria.

 

St. Paul UCC To Present A Grand Christmas

St. Paul UCC of Waterloo’s fourth-annual Grand Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 7. Music begins at 7 p.m. It features the piano, organ and keyboard talents of Sandy Hamby, Linda Mueller, Linda Pickett, Betty Rockford and Mark Babb. The Matins Ringers hand bell choir and the St. Paul Orchestra will also participate. The concert is free and open to the public.

 

Holiday Light Contest: Columbia Rotary Club’s is sponsoring their first-ever outdoor holiday lights and decorating contest. Columbia homes will be judged the weekend of Dec. 19 - 21. First prize is a $100 U.S. Savings Bond courtesy of Columbia National Bank, a $25 Visa gift card courtesy of First National Bank of Waterloo/Columbia and two tickets to a Blues hockey game with a parking pass ($175 value) courtesy of Nick Lamia of Edward Jones. Second and third prizes will also be awarded. To register, contact Louis Schlafly, president of the Columbia Rotary Club at 281-7101.

 

Santa Claus will visit Morrison-Talbott Library on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon.

 

Additional copies of the book Veterans of Monroe County, Illinois can be ordered at the Morrison Talbot Library in Waterloo and the Columbia Public Library. The books, compiled by the Monroe County Genealogical Society, contains 1,162 biographies and 975 individual pictures, and cost $55 each. Those compiling the book include Jan Wenk, Pat Vaseska, Pam Foster, Vern Ritter and Karen Buettner. Mail orders may be sent to the Monroe County Genealogical Society, P.O. Recent Obituaries

Rosalie A. “Sallie” Heizer, 78, of Prairie du Rocher, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta. She was born April 6, 1930 in Evansville, the daughter of the late Walter and Louise (nee Telehorster) Heck. She married Leo J. Heizer in 1947 in Prairie du Rocher. He preceded her in death. Survivors include four children, Robert (Joan) Heizer, William (Diane) Heizer, John (Carol) Heizer and Joan (Ron) Stork; siblings Radford, Clarence (Delores) Heck and Mary Jane (Ed) Scott; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and special friend, Maurice Mudd. Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 30, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday, Dec. 1, 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral is Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, the Rev. Fr. Daniel Jurek officiating. Mr. Heizer will be buried at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to masses, the National Parkinson Foundation or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
