Weather Update - March 3, 2008
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning. The rain currently falling should change into sleet this afternoon. Snow should begin falling later tonight and through Tuesday at a rate of two inches per hour. Snow accumulation is predicted at between 8 and 10 inches. Wind gusts are expected to reach upwards of 30 m.p.h. The Monroe County office of the Emergency Management Agency requests motorists should avoid driving unless absolutely necessary.
Schlick-Ice Advisory - March 3, 2008
The Monroe County Independent weather bureau is issuing a schlick-ice advisory on all county hardroads. This evening’s falling sleet is beginning to freeze on area roadway’s, especially Interstate 255. “Cars are sliding all over the place here,” said a Columbia Police Officer. IDOT crews are heading toward the Route 3 / I-255 interchange to put down an additional layer of melting compound.
Lost Dog Report
The Monroe County Coroner’s office is investigating the deaths of three individuals which occurred over the past couple days. Tim Rambo, who lived on Country Club Lane in rural Waterloo, died Saturday afternoon at his residence. Jason Spyteck of Columbia died early Monday morning after being rushed from his home to St. Anthony’s Hospital. County Coroner Julie Gummersheimer pronounced Chris Kannewurf of Columbia dead at his home Monday morning at about 7:30 a.m. Gummersheimer and her assistant, Rick Brewer, are investigating the circumstances surrounding each incident.
