Waters inside the levees along the bottoms have risen following last week’s heavy rainstorm. The Fountain Creek levee at Fountain is up several feet, but remains well below Bluff Road. There are also reports that Moredock Lake in old town Valmeyer is at its highest level in many years.

Circuit Judge Dennis Doyle eyes up desserts at the Waterloo VFW Good Friday fish buffet. “My verdict is… this is a great meal,” said Doyle.
Kate Valentine enjoys a fish plate served at by the Valmeyer Jaycees. She dined with her father, Scott. Recent Obituaries Beulah G. Valentine nee Valleroy, 88, of Valmeyer, died March 20, 2008, in Waterloo. She was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Modoc, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Louise Valleroy nee Wills. She was married to the late Welton L. Valentine. Mrs. Valentine is survived by her children Michael (Pamela) Valentine of Creve Coeur, Mo., Jeanne Mueller, and Anthony (Luzviminda) Valentine of Valmeyer; grandchildren Jeffrey (Dana) Mueller, Nicole Mueller and Heidi Valentine; nieces Viola Peters, Judy Hitzmann, Karen Buettner and Margaret Pierce. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter Amy Valentine Buckner. Mrs. Valentine was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Valmeyer and the Altar Sodality. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 901 in Valmeyer. Visitation is Monday, March 24, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Matt Friz officiating. She will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County. William “Sonny” Stafford Jr, 80, of Valmeyer, died March 21, 2008 in Valmeyer. He was born March 27, 1927 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late William Sr. and Ethel (nee Dearman) Stafford. Survivors include wife, Vinia (nee Losh) Stafford; children William (Becky) Stafford III of Waterloo, Allen (Shirley) Stafford of Valmeyer, Marie (Ed) Schultheis of Valmeyer, David (Janet) Stafford of Fults and James (Amy) Stafford of Hooker, Okla.; sister, Willene Hennemann; and brothers Dale Stafford and Donald (Louisa) Stafford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps; a member of the VFW in Arnold, Mo; American Legion in Prairie du Rocher and a former member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge. A procession will leave Quernheim Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m., on Monday, March 24 for a 1:15 p.m. graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
