Accident On Bluff Road: A driver lost control of her Jeep Cherokee on Sunday at 6 p.m. while driving northbound along Bluff Road in rural Valmeyer. The vehicle left the roadway near the intersection with Trout Road, went through a ditch and came to rest in a muddy field. The driver was not injured. ICS and Gibault grad Lance Stemler participated in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Indiana Hoosier forward scored 146 points while playing in all of the regular season games and their first round tournament loss to Arkansas. The traveling Vietnam War Wall Memorial will be on public display in Hecker from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1. Additional details will be provided closer to the arrival of the Wall.
Recent Obituaries Alyda Eckert, 92, of Columbia died March 23, 2008. She was born January 7, 1916 in Monroe County, the daughter of the late William and Wilhelmina (nee Otten) Wolfmeier. She was the wife of the late John J. Eckert, who died in 2002. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Wolfmeier. She is survived by a daughter, Mareda Eckert of Kirkwood, Mo.; and a grandchild, Ulya Eckert of Kirkwood, Mo.; along with other relatives and friends. She was a member of Christ Community Lutheran Church in Columbia. Visitation is Tuesday, March 25, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Wednesday March 26, 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor William Groennert officiating. She will be buried at St. Paul Evangelical Church Cemetery in Columbia.
