Group Promoting Local Safety To Meet

Those interested in joining the safety promoting group, the Monroe County Citizen Corps Council, will be April 1 at the Monroe County Courthouse. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., at the Emergency Management Agency office in the basement, room 14.

The council hopes to bring together first responders, business leaders, school officials and citizens in the community to meet with others in the community concerned with safety. Members will report safety concerns they have in their respective fields they feel is important to the group.

“The council is a networking of citizens to ensure we all are working together in the event of a natural disaster or man-made disaster in our county,” said Kim Strellis, one of the council’s organizers. “There is no homework or additional work on your part.”

The council plans to gather for monthly, one-hour meetings. The Community Emergency Response Team program falls under the council. The council can provide direction to CERT to cover needs seen by council members.
