Prescription Drugs Stolen: Break-in At Ron’s Pharmacy

Columbia Police Officer Josh Bayer, left, discusses a break-in yesterday at Ron’s Pharmacy with Paul Khoury, owner of the business located on Main Street in downtown Columbia. The incident occurred sometime overnight between March 31 and April 1.

Entry was gained through a back door that connects the pharmacy to an adjoining doctor’s office, and in the 911 call, Khoury stated several thousand dollars worth of drugs were stolen. The Columbia Police Department and Illinois State Police crime scene investigators are working on the case. They ask anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity that night to contact the CPD at 281-5151.

The pharmacy was closed for a couple hours yesterday morning while police conducted the investigation.

“We are open everything is back to normal,” Khoury said.

Storm Damages Harrisonville Barns

A spring thunderstorm that blew through Monroe County on Monday afternoon leveled two barns around downtown Harrisonville.

“We believe straight-line winds might have caused this damage,” said Gene Henckler, director of the local office of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

At the peak of the storm, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning after radar indicated a possible tornado three miles southeast of Waterloo. But there were no reported tornado sightings or damage that would indicate it was caused by a tornado, said Henckler.

In addition to the wind gusts, more than one inch of rain fell Monday evening.

“Our rain gauge showed 1.1 inches that day,” said Sue Kunkel of the Monroe County Farm Bureau office in Waterloo.

The man stabbed last Thursday night behind the Capitol Theatre in Waterloo has not yet pressed charges and has provided no additional information about the incident to the Waterloo Police Department, said a WPD representative. The initial report from the Waterloo Police Department was that prior to the stabbing the three individuals may have been in an argument at a bar in Waterloo.
