From our earlier report...

Pedestrian Killed When Struck By Semitrailer

A man was killed instantly this morning when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on I-255, just east of the J.B. Bridge. The initial report is that at about 10:30 a.m., a man was walking around a white Dodge Ram that had apparently broken down and was parked on the shoulder of the interstate. A tractor-trailer traveling eastbound in the outside lane struck him, and he came to rest in a nearby ditch, about 15 yards from his vehicle. Columbia police officers and the Columbia Ambulance Service responded but the man was already dead.

A Monroe County Coroner was contacted at 10:40 a.m. and was en-route to the scene. Names of those involved have not yet been released. The Illinois State Police is conducting the investigation of the incident.
