Biker Injured In Accident On Millstadt Highway


A man driving a motorcycle was injured today at 12:30 p.m. during an accident on Route 158 between Columbia and Millstadt. The person, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to a hospital by Arch helicopter.

 

Small Kitchen Fire At Denny’s

The Waterloo Fire Department was called out Saturday afternoon to put out a small fire next to a water heater at the Denny’s on North Market Street. The restaurant is currently closed for a couple weeks for planned remodeling.

 

Kiwanis Brings The Circus To Town

The Kelly Miller Circus performed two shows Sunday under the big top at the parking lot of the YMCA. The event was sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Waterloo and Columbia. Riding atop an elephant before the 2 p.m. show are Norah Gum, Natalie Gum, Stephanie Harp, Andrew Harmon and Kate Kienzle.

 

Amber (Eschmann from home) and George Bisanz became the proud parents April 18 of baby daughter Claire Nicole Bisanz. She weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 20 ˝ inches long.

 

The Monroe County YMCA will celebrate April as International Month with a potluck dinner on April 23. Senior citizens are invited to attend the event which begins at 12 noon. Fried chicken will be provided. The Waterloo German Band will perform and there will be presentations on Nigeria and Greece. To make reservations, call 281-9622 and ask for Marge.

 

Recent Obituary

Donald C. Borcharding, 56, of Waterloo, died April 19, 2008, at de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Mo. He was born April 29, 1951, in Red Bud, the son of Alvin and Arlou (Janson) Borcharding of Columbia. He married Marilyn (Metter) Borcharding in 1971. She survives him. Mr. Borcharding was a member of U.S. Army 892nd Transportation Company and an Army Veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of the St. Louis Model Railroaders and employed as a supervisor at HTC Communications in Waterloo for 34 years. Along with his wife and parents, survivors include a brother, Tom Borcharding of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Jon Borcharding, Brandon, Kevin, and Andrew Costello, Stephanie Metter, Abbey and Kelly Metter; along with other relatives and friends. Visitation is Tuesday, April 22, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral service is Wednesday, April 23, 10 a.m., at the funeral home. He will be buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Columbia. Memorial may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County or the de Greeff Hospice House.
