Memorial Day observances in Waterloo and Hecker have been moved indoors. The Hecker service will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Community Center. The service at the Waterloo VFW Post Hall begins at 11 a.m.

 

Torrential Rain And Lightning Cause Havoc In Waterloo

Heavy rains on Sunday caused the creek by Lakeview Park in Waterloo to overrun its banks. More than 3 inches fell in Waterloo in less than one-half hour. An additional two inches of rain fell overnight.

 

Ahne Road Closure Due To Heavy Rains

“We got 3.7 inches of rain in about 15 minutes today,” said Ahne Road resident Butch Sparwasser. “I guess we’ll have to take the back way into Waterloo.”

Taake said he hoped to have the road repaired by later this week. While Ahne Road is closed, he advised motorists to use alternate routes, including KK Road and Old Baum Church Road.

Gibault High School Graduation Was Sunday Night

Recent Obituaries

Dorothy Ebersohl nee Jehling, 84, of Waterloo, died May 24, 2008. She was born Dec. 30, 1923 in Waterloo, the daughter of the later Charles and Frieda (nee Wetzel) Jehling. She is survived by children Sharon Ebersohl and Dennis Ebersohl, both of Waterloo, along with sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Ebersohl; and brother Carl Jehling; along with sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Mrs. Ebersohl was a member of St. Paul UCC of Waterloo, a charter member of the Waterloo VFW Auxiliary, a past president of the Waterloo American Legion Auxiliary, Bud Light Brigade and a board member of Deer Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, May 27, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Wednesday, May 29, 10 a.m., at St. Paul UCC of Waterloo with Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. Mrs. Ebersohl with be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to Hoyleton Children's Home or the Deer Hill Cemetery.

Grace Lenhardt nee Muskopf, 88, of Waterloo, died May 23, 2008 in Waterloo. She was born Dec. 19, 1919 in Columbia, the daughter of the late Irwin and Mathilda (nee Werner) Muskopf. She is survived by a son, David (Bridget) Lenhardt of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren Michelle (Marco) Calavita and Meghan Lenhardt; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Calavita and Lucas Calavita; and son-in-law Dick McAnern of Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Lenhardt; son, Robert "JR" Lenhardt Jr.; and daughter, Betty McAnern. She was a member of St. Paul UCC of Waterloo and the Eastern Star of Columbia. Visitation is Monday, May 26, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday, May 27, 10 a.m., at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. Mrs. Lenhardt will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church of the Salvation Army.

Mae Limestall, 82, of Columbia, died May 23, 2008. She was born May 3, 1926 in Columbia, the daughter of the late William Juengling and the late Elizabeth (Dannehold) Juengling. She married Roy “Joe” Limestall in 1946. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Ann Kleinschmidt of Millstadt; sons Dennis (Nancy) Limestall of Schaumburg and Gary Limestall of Columbia; brother, James Juengling of Columbia; sister, Pearl Landgraf of Columbia; and grandchildren Doc (Michelle)and Tyler Kleinschmidt, Courtney (Matt) Craig and Blake Limestall and Ryan and Chad Limestall; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Gary Kleinschmidt; daughter-in-law, Claudia Limestall; and sister, Vernet Juengling. She was a member of the Columbia Senior Citizens, Columbia Gymnastic Association Auxiliary, had volunteered with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and had been active with the Altar Sodality and Immaculate Conception quilting group. Visitation is Monday, May 26, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday, May 27, 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. She will be buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.
