Biker Injured On Maeystown Road

Frances Jones of St. Louis was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday night on Maeystown Road. The accident occurred at 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of Mill Street on the north end of the bypass. Jones, 47, was transported by Arch helicopter to an area hospital with injuries to her head and neck. Her condition is not known at this time.

 

Bobby Norman and Jennifer Yovandich were involved in a Memorial Day accident in Waterloo. According to the police report, when Norman, 17, turned off of Moore Street and onto S. Library Street his Dodge Stratus collided with a parked Dodge Intrepid owned by Yovandich. Norman’s car rolled up the side of the Intrepid and came to rest precariously on its hood. There were no injuries.   

 

The Waterloo Public Utilities Department worked quickly to have power restored Wednesday night after a brief blackout.

 

Recent Obituaries

Michael Thies, 42, of Ruma, died May 25, 2008, in Indianapolis, Ind. He was born Oct. 19, 1965 in Red Bud, the son of Arthur and Glydys (nee Schmidt) Thies. Mr. Thies was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ruma, was on the Ruma zoning board and park board, was a former Ruma alderman and a member of the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce. He was a tee-ball coach for his son's team, volunteered with the Boy Scout's and was a member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathy Thies; children Sarah, Kelley and Nathan Thies and Cody Melliere; father-in-law, Charles and Debbie Buss of St. Libory; mother-in-law, Marlene Buss of Red Bud; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Karla (Spanky) Williams of Freeburg, Kurt (Amanda) Buss of St. Libory, Jaime (Mike) Finck of St. Louis, Mo., Scott (Jaime) Dressler of Highland, Katie (John) Feder of New Athens, Amanda Dressler of Freeburg and Eric Dressler of St. Libory; and step-grandfather, Clarence Wisckamp of Freeburg; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by grandparents Sigmund and Clara Thies and Carl and Olga Schmidt. Visitation is Thursday, May 29, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral is Friday, May 30, 10 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Father Clyde Grogan officiating. He will be buried at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Ruma. Memorials may be made to his children's educational fund.

Sadie Henson, 97, of Dupo, died May 28, 2008 at her residence. She was born Dec. 16, 1910 in Fountain, the daughter of the late Theodor and Louisa (nee Ludwig) Schellhardt). She was a member of Christ UCC of Dupo, the quilter group, women's guild, bible study and home extension. Mrs. Henson retired as a licensed practical nurse in 1975. She was the grand marshal of the Dupo Centennial Parade in 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henson; siblings Jack Schellhardt, Oscar Schellhardt, Emil Schellhardt, Otto Schellhardt, Elnore Leister, Fredia Muehlhauser and Annie Rusteberg. She is survived by her children, Donald (Marilyn) Henson of Columbia, David (Carol) Henson of Mt. Vernon and Robert (Joyce Ann) Henson of Columbia; grandchildren Dr. DeeAnn Stroop, Ltc. AF J.D. Henson, Karri Mize, Rev. Mike Henson, Suzanne Teske, Wendy Hedin, Janelle Moore, Julie Nelson and Ryan Henson; and 20 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. Visitation is Saturday, May 24, 12 noon to 4 p.m., at Christ UCC of Dupo. A funeral will follow, Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Mrs. Henson will be buried at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Pine Log, Ga. Memorials may be made to Christ UCC of Dupo.

James “John” Otten, 69, of Modoc, died May 27, 2008, at his residence. He was born Aug. 27, 1938 in Evansville, the son of the late John and Mary (Siebold) Otten. He worked as a deck hand on the ferry boat in Modoc and then was employed for 24 years at Gilster Mary-Lee in Chester. Survivors include sisters Margaret Vaughn of Prairie du Rocher, Mary Lou Loehr of Belleville, Mary (Rogers) Donjon of Prairie du Rocher and Ruth (Jerry) Baker of Red Bud; along with nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday, May 30, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral is Saturday, May 31, 10 a.m., at St. Leo Catholic Church in Modoc, with Father Clyde Grogan officiating. He will be buried at the church’s cemetery.
