Tony Ahrens Takes Home First Place Demo Trophy

Through a driving rain in the final two heats, Tony Ahrens of Valmeyer, right, won the 2008 Monroe County Demolition Derby. Fair Queen Carolyn Wicklein also presented trophies to, left to right, Alex Voelker, second place; and Ted Ahrens, third place. Prior to the start of the consolation race, the derby was stopped for about one-half hour for a rain delay. The remainder of the event was held in a hard downpour. Many of the perennial favorites were eliminated early in the competition, with the exception of David Wirth who made it to the final heat.

The main arena was a messy pit of mud as the rain fell during the final heat of the 2008 Monroe County Demolition Derby. This was the second year in a row for a rain delay during the demo derby.  

Kalen Mudd’s car heats up a rainy night as it becomes engulfed in flames during a preliminary heat of the demo derby. Hecker firefighters Happel and Braun rushed onto the track to put out the blaze. Mudd was not injured in the fire.
