Trolley Tour Shares Knowledge Of Columbia’s Past

On Saturday, the Columbia Historical Society is conducting their annual trolley tour of historical sites. This year Gene Haller will lead a tour of the southern part of town, often referred to as Old Town Columbia. Remaining tours today are at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

 

Columbia Daze Concludes Tonight

Columbia firefighters served up several hundred pounds of fried fish Friday night during the Columbia Daze celebration. The parade kicks off Saturday’s entertainment. It begins at 5 p.m. and runs south along Main Street.


The Columbia Optimist 5K and 10K Run / Walk was held Saturday morning throughout the town. Participants enjoyed  a mild summer day for the event.

 

Hecker Church Picnic Is Saturday Night

St. Augustine Catholic Church’s annual Kirchenfest is Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Hecker Community Center grounds. The all-you-can-eat fried chicken and pork sausage dinner begins at 3 p.m. inside the air-conditioned hall. Mass is at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. There are also food and beer stands outside. A washers tournament starts at 7 p.m. and Butch and the Polka Kings will provide musical entertainment from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. In addition, there is a Kids Korner, silent auction, cake stand, country store, quilt bingo and games of chance.

The second annual Hecker Tiki Trot 5K Run / Walk and Youth One-Half Mile Walk begins when the sun goes down.
