Four WHS
Students Injured In Rollover Accident Four Waterloo High School students were injured Saturday night when the Ford Explorer they were riding in rolled over along Konarcik Road, east of Waterloo. The vehicle was traveling eastbound along the 5800 block of Konarcik Road when the driver lost control at about 8:35 p.m. The Explorer went through a ditch, sheared a telephone pole, and rolled up and back down an embankment before coming to rest on its roof in a ditch along the road. The driver and two of the passengers were able to kick open a door and exit the vehicle. One of the back seat passengers remained trapped inside. The Waterloo Fire Department used Jaws of Life equipment to assist Monroe County Ambulance Department personnel in extricating the individual. All the while the other occupants stood by and voiced words of encouragement to their injured friend. All four were transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis County. Three of them were released with minor injuries, including cuts, broken bones and seat belt burns. The individual which was trapped was taken to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital for further treatment, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening. Names of the individuals and the cause of the accident have not yet been released. ![]() A telephone along Konarcik Road in Waterloo was broken into four pieces during a Saturday night accident.
County Squad Car And Motorcycle Collide A man was airlifted by Arch helicopter Saturday night after his motorcycle collided with a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department squad car. The accident occurred at 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of Bluff Road and Ziebold Road in rural Valmeyer. The initial report is the squad car came upon a group of motorcycles and one of the bikes collided with the approaching vehicle. The Valmeyer First Responders unit and Valmeyer Fire Department assisted Monroe County Ambulance personnel in caring for the victim until the Arch helicopter landed nearby along the roadway. The Illinois State Police is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. The name of the deputy and the driver of the motorcycle have not yet been released. ![]() The front end of a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department squad car received extensive front end damage Saturday night during a collision on Bluff Road.
