Hecker’s
Kirchenfest Races To A Fun Evening

The Tiki Torch 5k and 10k run
highlighted the annual St. Augustine of Hecker Kirchenfest.
Runners raced through Tiki torch-lit downtown streets and rural Nike Road before
returning to the finish line next to the Hecker Community Center softball
diamond. The event was organized by Hecker Mayor Tom Hootselle. In addition to
the race, other big draws at the Kirchenfest were the washers tournament, bingo,
and chicken and pork sausage dinners. “We served nearly 1,200 dinners again this
year,” said longtime kitchen worker Dale Papenberg.
