Another String Of Overnight Burglaries

Waterloo Police Officer Jeff Prosise, left, talks to Oak Street residents, left to right, Eric Lavender, John Prather and John Gaither, after their vehicles were broken into between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

For the second weekend in a row, several Waterloo residents are waking up to discover their vehicles were broken into overnight. There were nearly 10 reports as of 11 a.m. of money and easy to carry items being taken from unlocked cars and trucks on both the north and south ends of town.

“We had five reports near Bradford Station and at least four so far on the south end of town,” reports Waterloo Police Officer Jeff Prosise.

Last week, burglars hit the Stonefield and Vandebrook subdivisions off of Route 3, south of Waterloo. During last night’s crime wave, the burglars concentrated their efforts on Marney Lane, Oak Street, Mark Drive, South Main and Elaine Drive. Although there was one report of an expensive GPS unit being taken from a vehicle, other big ticket items were left.

“They took all the change from my car, but left the golf clubs,” said Oak Street resident John Gaither.

John Prather, also of Oak Street, reported the burglars mainly shuffled around the papers he had in his truck, but only took the spare change and some winning free soda with next purchase bottle caps.

“We highly recommend every to lock their vehicles and never store anything of value overnight,” said Prosise.
