Waterloo Homecoming - August 24, 2008

Waterloo Homecoming Weekend Concludes With Saturday Parade And Nighttime Festivities

The predicted rain showers stayed away this weekend, making for a well-attended Waterloo Homecoming. Revelers lined the downtown streets Friday and Saturday to take in all the excitement.

“We had a record number of parade entries,” said Butch Sparwasser of the Waterloo VFW.

The top parade entries, as voted by the parade judges were Rural King, best overall; Jeff Staley Safety Foundation (in memory of an IDOT worker from Caseyville who died in 2006 on I-55 in a work zone), most original; and Human Support Services, best musical.

A warm evening was helped out by cold beverages, an occasional breeze and several watering holes offering air conditioning. Final homecoming attendance and sales figures are still being tabulated today.
