Rocher Hosts Apple Fest And Firemen’s Car Show

with the top prize during Sunday’s pie-baking competition at Prairie du Rocher’s
Apple Festival. “I am so surprised. This is only the second pie I ever baked,”
said Coats. Melissa Taylor was the top bidder for the pie during the auction
following the competition.

The Waterloo High School Class of
1948 met Saturday afternoon at the Acorns Golf Links
for their 60th class reunion. Musical entertainment was provided by
classmate Harry Wolf and his Waterloo German Band.

A power
outage knocked out electricity
for about two-hours Sunday
evening in various parts of Woodland Ridge in new town Valmeyer.
Waterloo High
School student Jake Frank is recovering from minor injuries
sustained Sunday morning in an
ATV accident at his home in rural Waterloo. Waterloo and Millstadt firefighters
assisted ambulance personnel transport Frank to a waiting ambulance.

Obituaries

Bobby Joe “B.J.” Holt,
75, of Columbia, died Sept. 20, 2008 at Columbia Convalescent Center. He was
born March 6, 1933, in Doniphan, Mo., the son of the late Riley Thomas and
Marion (Edmonds) Holt. He married Fredda (nee Beckum Alston) Holt in 1957. In
addition to his wife, Mr. Holt is survived by a son, Michael Holt of Orlando,
Fla., a daughter, Laura (Kevin) Heller of Columbia; grandchildren Allyson,
Hannah and Jacob Heller; and a sister, Marilyn (Willard) Griggs of
Fredericktown, Mo.; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr.
Holt was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a retired bank president
with Landmark Bank in Fairview Heights. He was a member of Christ Community
Church in Columbia, St. Clair Lodge 24 AF and AM, the American Legion and the
Columbia Senior Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 27,
11:30 p.m., at Christ Community Lutheran Church in Columbia, Pastor Jared Parker
officiating. Lawlor Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Mr. Holt was
cremated. Memorials may be made to Christ Community Church in Columbia.
