One person was injured Friday afternoon in a one-vehicle collision off Mule Road in the area of rural Columbia and East Carondelet. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
The Monroe County Zoning Board of Appeals hold a hearing Oct. 1 to address concerns regarding a citizen who wishes to apply for a permit to sell firearms and ammunition from his property at 2551 Trout Camp Road in rural Waterloo. The meeting will begin at 7:40 p.m., at the Monroe County Courthouse. Several neighboring property owners plan to attend and voice their concerns. The property owner currently has permits to use a portion of his property as a shooting range for high-caliber ammunition.
The Millstadt Sister Cities are looking forward to running the potato pancake stand next week during the Soulard Oktoberfest, Oct. 3, 4 and 5. Their stand will be located on Lafayette Street right next to the roller derby arena. “We’re going to introduce the fine folks of St. Louis to our nearly world famous potato pancakes,” said Otto Faulbaum, a sister cities board member.
Joe Brauer, the former Waterloo Police Chief, has accepted the position of Chief of Police in Lebanon, Mo. Brauer said Lebanon is a larger city than Waterloo, with 30 officers on the police force.
Former Monroe Coutians Kevin and Susie Shevlin of Amelia, Ohio, were among the 720,000 people out of power five days last month after Hurricane Ike passed through the Cincinnati area on Sept. 14. Always resourceful, the Shevlins had a generator to keep the refrigerators and freezers running.
