Weather Update - March 9, 2009

It appears Monroe County avoided any significant damage from the thunderstorm that raced through the area this morning. The National Weather Service did report rotation in the clouds in Ames in the southeastern portion of Monroe County. Emergency sirens sounded in Hecker and Red Bud, but there were no sightings of a tornado touching down. There were reports of nickel-size hail in the city of Red Bud. Hecker firefighters reported there was some strong winds and rain in Hecker, but the storm blew through quickly and it currently is sunny.

Two Accidents Sunday Morning:  A car rolled into a ditch along Route 156 just west of Valmeyer just before the storm blew through. Injuries were minor. In another incident, a car slid into a ditch in Waterloo near the intersection of Route 3 and North Market Street. Those injuries were also reported to be minor.
