Shopper Brave The Rain To Attend Fruelingsfest

Caleb Seboldt of Fults holds an umbrella for his father, Mark,
during Sunday’s Maeystown Fruehlingsfest in front of the CN Antiques of Chestnut
stand. Buyers of antiques gathered today while a steady mist of rain fell on
downtown Maeystown for the spring antique and garden show. During the event, the
Seboldts enjoyed a pork steak dinner served by St. John UCC of Maeystown.

Voted Best Hat At Kentucky Derby Party In Fults
Bill Crimm
and Linda Wilkerson of Fults hosted a party for the 135th running of the
Kentucky Derby. Family and friends gathered for an afternoon of fun and rooting
on their favorite horses. Bill is a Waterloo native, but Linda comes from
Kentucky, home to the derby. During the gathering, Nancy Sisson was recognized
as wearing the best hat. She received a gift basket full of derby goodies made
by Linda.

Derby Days
Raises Funds For Relay For Life

The
Generations Plus Relay For Life team hosted their annual Kentucky Derby Days
gathering Saturday at Fountain Inn. Proceeds were donated to the American Red
Cross. A highlight of the event was the crawfish served by Megan Miller.

Maus Signs On
To Play Soccer At McKendree

Valmeyer High School senior Zane Maus signed a letter of intent Friday
to accept an athletic scholarship to play soccer at McKendree University.
Participating in the event are, left to right, first row, parents Allen and
Laura Maus, Zane Maus and McKendree head soccer coach Tim Strange; and second
row, Valmeyer High School Athletic Director Nathan McSchooler and VHS Head
Soccer Coach Neil Siburt. –

Librarian In Columbia:

Pyle has accepted a position as the new library director at the Columbia Public
Library. Linda Maus had stepped down from the position earlier this year.
HVFD BBQ Is May 17:
Hecker firefighters are making their plans for their annual barbecue and antique
tractor show scheduled for Sunday, May 17. “We’ll be grilling from 10:30 a.m. to
3 p.m.,” said Hecker Firefighter Gary Wittenauer.

Water Gas Mart (the former Gas N’ Grab)
at the
intersection of Fourth Street and South Market Street is slated to reopen May 9.
New gas tanks and overhang are being installed. –
