Weekend Wrap-Up - June 22, 2009

Weather Is Heating Up – Weather Advisory Continues

With daytime temperatures remaining above 90 degrees this week, the National Weather Service has extended their heat advisory through this Wednesday. There has already been a few reports of Monroe Countians suffering from heat stroke this past week. Health officials advise residents to remain indoors or use extreme caution when working outside. Public cooling stations have been set up during this current period of excessive heat. They are located at Oak Hill in Waterloo and Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia. The Monroe County Office of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is coordinating this effort. Elderly people, those with respiratory problems and infants living in homes without air conditioning are encouraged to seek relief during the day at these locations, reports the IEMA.
