Tom Peniston of St. Louis has been named as the driver of the 1998 Pontiac which collided yesterday with Jimmy Mullins on his bike. Peniston, 60, will not be ticketed in the incident. According to the police report, Mullins, 27, was riding his bicycle and cut into the path of Peniston, who was driving in the southbound lane of South Market Street. Mullins died from the injuries sustained in the collision. Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.

The Mon-Clair Baseball League playoffs begin Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Game 2, 8:30 p.m.: #4 Valmeyer Lakers (11-11) vs. #5 Belleville Rockies (11-11)
 
Quarterfinal games at SPPS Field in Waterloo
Game 3, 6:30 p.m.: #2 Fairview Heights Redbirds (18-4) vs. #7 Columbia Saints (8-14)
Game 4, 8:30 p.m.: #3 Waterloo Millers (12-10) vs. #6 Edwardsville Mavericks (9-13)
 
Semifinal round, Saturday, Aug. 15, at Borsch Memorial Park in old town Valmeyer
Game 5, 10:30 a.m.: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2

Game one of the best of three Championship Series will be played Saturday, at 2:45 p.m.
The Championship Series will resume Sunday, Aug. 16 at Borsch Memorial Park.
Game 2 will start at 1 p.m., and Game 3, if necessary, at 3 p.m.

 


Waterloo Millers pitcher Mark Mueller hurls a 6-2 victory
over Belleville in a game held Sunday at Whitey Herzog Field. The Millers fell to the Columbia Saints 19-17 in the second game of their double-header. Dumpster Fire At Old Nursing Home: The Waterloo Fire Department was called out Tuesday morning to put out a fire in a dumpster sitting in the parking lot of the old Monroe County Nursing Home.

Fill The Boot For MDA: Waterloo Firefighters will be collecting money later this week during their annual Boot Drive For The Muscular Dystrophy Association. They will be at the intersections Friday, Aug. 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Columbia firefighters will have an MDA boot drive Aug. 21, 22 and 23, along Main Street.
