Columbia rallied to turn a first half deficit into a commanding victory over the Dupo Tigers. The home Eagles trailed 8-7 at the half, but turned things around in the third quarter and held on for a 20-8 victory. They were able to pick up a couple fumbles and the defense locked down the Tigers in the second half. A turning point in the game was a goal line stand by their defense just before half time. “That was huge for us, a big momentum switch,” said CHS Coach Scott Horner. “We were down 8-7 at that point, and it could of been worse if they scored. Credit our kids for not giving up."

Friday night’s contest was a hard hitting game with each yard hard fought from the start to the final moments. “That's a Dupo and Columbia football game. If it’s not a hard-hitting game, well, then something’s wrong,” Horner added. The win propelled the Eagles to a 2-1 record, while Dupo fell to 1-3.

A Tale Of Two Halves - Waterloo Loses Heartbreaker To Carbondale

The tail pointed to the Waterloo Bulldogs in the first half of Friday night’s game, but wagged the Carbondale Terriers’ way after halftime. Waterloo took their 2-0 record the long ride south Friday night to take on the undefeated Carbondale Terriers (2-0). Waterloo’s powerful running game came on strong in the first quarter and the Bulldogs were quickly ahead 17-0. It seemed by the start of the second quarter that the Terriers made some adjustments to their strategy. Carbondale countered in the second quarter and found themselves down by only seven at halftime with the score of 24-17. The Bulldogs came out of the gates quickly at the start of the third quarter and put the ball in the end zone for a 30-17 lead. But that was all the scoring WHS was able to muster in the game. The Terriers came roaring back and were down by only six at the start of the fourth quarter, 30-24. With eight minutes to go in the final quarter, the Terriers crossed the end zone and the extra point put them ahead 31-30. Carbondale was able to add one more touchdown before the final tick and won 38-30.
