Heads Up Plays Sends Gibault To Sectional

Playing sound fundamental soccer and capitalizing on key opportunities helped propel the Gibault Hawks to victory Tuesday evening in the Class 1A Columbia Regional at Oerter Park. They beat host team Columbia 2-0. Brent Russell picked up both goals with assists coming from teammate Griffin Wielgus. Early in the first half, Columbia put the ball in the net to apparently take the lead, but the goal was disallowed because of an off-sides penalty. The Hawks will head to Raymond (north of Litchfield) on Thursday to take on Teutopolis in the first round of the Lincolnwood Sectional. Kick-off is at 4:30 p.m.
