Local Basketball Teams Post Friday Losses

Waterloo, Gibault and Columbia all lost their Friday night hard court contests. Columbia was defeated by Sparta 50-43 in a first-round game of the Lebanon Thanksgiving Tournament at McKendree University. The Eagles will take on Southwestern on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Both Gibault and Waterloo fell in their games in the Waterloo-Triad Tournament , which is being played this year in Waterloo. Gibault was handily defeated by a strong Highland team 51-25 – with the Hawks only managing two points in the fourth quarter. Gibault takes on Civic Memorial on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

Waterloo came out strong in their game against Mater Dei (3-0) and led 31-25 at the half. But Mater Dei shooters got hot in the second half. The Knights scored the first 11 points to start the third quarter and went on a 23-4 run. As the buzzer sounded at the end of the game, Waterloo lost the game 64-55. The Bulldogs will play Nokomis Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
