Former Columbia Man Dies In East Carondelet Home Fire

Justin McDaniel died Friday morning in a fire at his home on State Street in East Carondelet. McDaniel, 27, was a graduate of Columbia High School. He is the son of James “Tater” and Jan McDaniel of Columbia. His father works for the city of Columbia. The fire broke out just before 8 a.m. A woman in the home was able to exit with their young son. Firefighters from Prairie du Pont, Dupo and Cahokia soon arrived on the scene. A fireman was able to locate McDaniel and pull him out of the smoke-filled house. He was rushed by ambulance to Kenneth Hall Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Funeral arrangements are pending. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
