News Follow-Up - April 8, 2010
A 1993 Grand Marquis driven by Laura Chaklos, 42, of Red Bud collided this morning with a 2010 Ford Escape driven by Scott Seaborn, 62, of Waterloo, at 5:35 a.m. at the intersection of Route 3 and LL Road between Route 3 and Waterloo. The collision caused fatal injuries to Chaklos. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:20 a.m. by Monroe County Coroner Julie Gummersheimer and Deputy Coroner Rick Brewer. Seaborn received minor injuries and was transported by Monroe County Ambulance Service to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in South County. According to the police report, Seaborn, driving a vehicle owned by Southern Illinois Hospital Services, was traveling southbound on Route 3. As he approached LL Road, he noticed Chaklos’ car driving on LL Road. Her Grand Marquis failed to stop at the intersection and proceeded directly into the path of Seaborn’s vehicle. His Ford Escape t-boned Chaklos’ car on the driver’s side. The Grand Marquis came to rest in ditch, while the Ford Escape spun around and stopped in the northbound lane. Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Ed Ahne was first on the scene and broke out windows of the Grand Marquis, owned by a Keith Painter of Belleville, to check on the condition of the driver, but he immediately determined Mrs. Chaklos was deceased. Kassly Funeral Home in Fairview Heights will be handling the arrangements for Mrs. Chaklos.
