Truck Rolls Near County Fairgrounds Sending One To Hospital
Two
brothers from Valmeyer escaped serious injury just after 12:30 p.m. today
when their trucked rolled into a ditch on Route 158, just west of the Monroe
County Fairgrounds. Casey Harget, 16, was driving his Ford Ranger eastbound
on Route 158 toward Waterloo when he lost control at a curve in the road.
The truck went out of control, rolled and landed on its side facing the
opposite direction in a ditch in the westbound lane of the highway. Both
boys were wearing their seatbelts and able to exit the vehicle by climbing
out the passenger-side door. The boys’ parents soon arrived on the scene and
they were very thankful their sons were not badly hurt. Caleb said his back
was hurting a little bit so he was transferred by ambulance to St. Louis
John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. Waterloo firefighters were called
to the scene because the gas tank on the truck was punctured and was leaking
gasoline. Both lanes of traffic was closed for about one-half hour until the
truck was removed the ditch.
Gibault will wrap up their weekend performances of The Wizard Of Oz with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Lucy Coats of Valmeyer has the starring role as Dorothy. “We’ve had great turnouts for both the Friday and Saturday shows and are hoping for a good showing at Sunday’s finale,” said longtime Gibault teacher Bill Guthrie, who worked as the technical director of this year’s production.
This was
a big weekend for the area’s drama departments, as Waterloo, Valmeyer, Red
Bud and Dupo all had shows.
