News Follow-Up - May 26, 2010
Gas War Continues In Monroe County Gas prices in Waterloo and Columbia dropped an addition eight cents per gallon this week to its current level today of $2.41, which is below the cost the stations are paying their wholesalers for the petroleum. This sale price continues to be about 20 cents lower than the gas prices of surrounding Illinois counties and St. Louis and South County. This surprised many Missouri motorists because their state’s per-gallon gas tax is more than 20 cents less than that charged in the State Of Illinois. Gas station managers and owners are not claiming which gas station is setting the price at that low level, although speculation swirls through conversations throughout the county. U-Gas in Waterloo is offering a coupon in current edition of The Independent which allows you to save an addition four cents per gallon for those paying with cash. The coupon expires May 31. It is not sure if has prices will go back up following that date.
