Thieves Steel Seven Air Conditioners From Columbia Businesses

Several Columbia business located in Southwoods Centre had to keep their windows open and fans on today to help keep cool. When employees arrived this morning they discovered their central air conditioning units had been stolen overnight.

“It’s a little warm and muggy today, but we’re getting by,” said Sandy Newland of T & T Brokerage, one of the businesses hit in the theft.

Each unit was valued at approximately $2,000, said Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards. “The thefts occurred between 5 p.m. yesterday and 7:30 a.m. this morning,” he added.

Edwards said they are continuing their investigation and are reviewing surveillance  tapes from area businesses. Edwards is asking the public to notify the police department at 281-5151 to report anything or anyone suspicious spotted in the Southwoods Centre area during this timeframe.
