Motorcycle Accident On Route 3: A Monroe County ambulance was called out at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of KK Road and Route 3 south of Waterloo for an accident involving a motorcycle and a car. The two people on the motorcycle were initially listed in critical condition. Additional information is not known at this time.

 

Spring Storms Continue To Roll Through Monroe County

Thunderstorms brought rain, strong winds and even some hail to Monroe County at the start of the weekend. Columbia residents took cover Friday afternoon when nickel-sized hail fell for about 10 minutes. A hard rain also poured down throughout the area early Saturday morning. Another wave of thunderstorms raced through Monroe County Saturday evening. Meteorologists are predicting warm temperatures, high humidity and a chance of rain for Sunday, Father’s Day.

Justin Toal of Columbia hit a hole-in-one Friday, June 18 at the Fair Oaks Golf Course in St. Louis. He is the grandson of Jack Toal and son of John and Cindie Toal. John put in a hole-in-one of his own several years ago during the Gibault High School Tournament at Annbriar.

 

Beverly Hirstein of Waterloo is busy entertaining a family reunion this weekend. Her son John (Cheri) Hirstein of Germany is home, along with local sisters Katha and Sharon. John’s children from Iowa, Amy and Raub, Holly, and Scott are also visiting with the Beverly’s two grandsons, Oliver and Emerson. Beverly’s other son, Gary, flew in from Houston to attend.

 

The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting Wednesday, June 23, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Waterloo City Hall to discuss their plans to widen Route 3 to four lanes from North Market to South Market Streets. IDOT officials will be accepting input and questions from residents. For additional information, call 618-346-3157.
