Weekend Wrap-Up - August 1, 2010
Kohler Family Tops At Demo Derby Lance Kohler of Waterloo learned a thing or two about building and driving a demolition car from his father, Scott, who has won numerous trophies through the years at the Monroe County Fair’s Demo Derby. Lance, 19, was the last car running during the big event Friday night in the main arena. He took home a six-foot tall first place trophy. His father finished in second place, while Brandon Keim took home the third place trophy. Other perennial winners John Toenjes and Vince Allscheid made it into the final heat, but were knocked out of contention. John Miller watched the demo this year from the grandstands. For yet another year, a rain storm interrupted the event as the thousands of folks in the grandstands were soaked when a storm rolled through during the middle of the event.
A new
trophy was presented this year to the contestant who was voted by the judges
as having the best hits. Taking home the first-ever Mad Dog trophy was Matt
Seymour. Another twist for 2010 was a one-heat small-car demo derby. Jeremy
Robert with passenger Barbara Wheat took home the first place trophy in that
event.
